The dark comedy aspect of all of this is that had we have known QPR would eventually see sense and approach Gareth, we probably wouldn’t have let Bloomfield leave for an (admittedly loose) rival.
I wonder if Gareth has a release clause in his contract with us. If it's going to happen then 'twere well it were done quickly, to quote Shakesy P. Hopefully by the end of today to give both clubs the most time to prepare for Saturday.
As for working with Les Ferdinand, if Gareth wants a step up then he'll have to accept additional layers of bureaucracy above his head wherever he goes. I'm sure he'll be free to work directly with the players, which is where he comes into his own.
And as for where it leaves Wycombe - I actually think this would be a good time to leave, safe in the knowledge that we won't get relegated, giving whoever comes in time to bed in their ideas and work out who they want to bring in for the rebuilding over the summer so they can hit the ground running in the close season.
And as for possible replacements... I've said it before but why not bring in a leading light of the women's game to show how progressive we are? Sarina Wiegman would be a brilliant hire, a real winner.
England just won the Women's Euros and have a World Cup around the corner. I love the Blues as much as anyone, but is any manager turning that down to walk up Hillbottom Road?
Dobbo is also the perfect no.2 but I’m not sure he’d be a manager in his own-right. Not to say he can’t do it, just that I think him and Gareth are so closely linked that he wouldn’t stay and try it alone. He’s said as much in podcasts before.
There are plenty of practical reasons why Martin O'Neill might not become the next Wycombe manager but what Wycombe fan on earth wouldn't "want" that to happen?
It's mad to me that fans would not be ecstatic (*) if this happened
(*) in the event Gaz leaving, obviously. The actual best scenario is a he signs a 20 year contract later on today and says "I honestly couldn't leave Wycombe at such an exciting time. I believe QPR will get back to the highest level of English football and I have this silly little dream that I'd like us to join them"
Clear that GA is the target and that he will be offered the job. Hard to imagine that QPR would do this so publicly if they weren't really confident that he would agree to it given the embarrassment if he were to turn it down.
Horrible to see it finally happen, but regrettably from his point of view this is the time he has to make the gamble/jump if he doesn't want to be associated with us forever.
I would imagine an afternoon of wrangling over the finer detail/compensation, etc and an announcement later this afternoon (maybe pushing into tomorrow).
Danny's been doing co-comms with Phil this season and he's an incredibly astute tactician, fascinating to listen to as he picks up on even the tiniest changes in tactics during a match and talks in depth about what needs to happen to counter them.
of course GA's departure hasn't happened yet, but if it does it'll be all the more galling given how profoundly un-arsed so many of their fans seem to be at the prospect of GA getting the job (per their "we are the Rangers boys" forum at least).
And even a load of them who rate him either think, they don't want to risk a former fan favourite falling flat on his face, or they would warn GA against the job since they're such a basket case of a club.

The sudden influx of QPR fans applying to the Gasroom is a little concerning.
Can't believe nobody has mentioned Keith Scott. Get him in with Dave Tarpey
Martin with Keith Ryan as his assistant until the end of the season. Should GA and Dobbo go.

What makes anyone think MoN is the correct choice? Football has evolved massively since he was last with us.
I really hope that Rob and Co make GA an offer he can't refuse. I don't like the thought of us without him.
If I were a Couihig I let Gaz go with a blessing but offer Dobbo the chance to step up. Divide and conquer.

I see zero benefit of hiring someone to show the world that we are "progressive".
Whoever takes over has to be the right person for the job. Not to say Wiegman isn't but not sure it's going to happen as a PR stunt.
True, but he has been a top-level manager very recently (I'm not saying I think it will happen)
What's all this sudden Senda business?

Why wouldn't Dobbo follow Gareth to QPR?
Based on his co-comms on Wycombe games. Which are very insightful - clearly a tactical thinker with promise.

He perhaps wants to be a number one.
The only doubt would be if the choice of suitor was up north. But QPR certainly shouldn't be an issue lifestyle wise.
On another note, I'm trying to ignore the sheer fate that QPR's next game is v Blackburn! Almost seems written for Gareth to leave now.
Well. We'll know fairly soon.

As others have said. End of an era.
I wonder who and when the next one will start?

Exactly this
The New Keith Scott !
Scotty had at least managed though, albeit non league.
17 year gap between O'Neill and Ainsworth so the next golden era will be 2040.
I've aged 20 years since Ainsworth became manager - I'd just become old enough to legally drink.
hahaha 😂😂

Gareth Ainsworth Wycombe Wanderers Appointed: 24.09.12 1/3 and 2/5 with Sack race to be next QPR boss...
Feel physically sick but then I don't normally drink a bottle of Whiskey before lunch on an empty, but not flat, stomach.
Looks like we need to hope the Couhig's have a decent succession plan lined up.
