According to the official history of Port Vale, "In 1929, manager Tom Horgan took to wearing a beret to matches. At the time such a fashion statement was very outlandish, particularly in the Potteries. For a couple of seasons Vale fans would throw croissants onto the pitch whenever they scored, in celebration of Horgan's French style. A croissant was added to the crest in 1935, in recognition of this craze, and the nickname 'frogs' was often used until the outbreak of war in 1939."
I can see why you’d think that, but the aim was actually to depict a bakery product that’s more typically round in shape.
The club was originally founded by Ashkenazi Jewish immigrant bakers as Port Bagel, but the name got corrupted over time (like so many other things in modern football), and here we are.
Could just be a JJ-Taf centre back combo? Grimmer and Obita wide.
But we'll soon see.
Mawson must have been out close to 2 months now? Although if we still get him play 12-15 games to end the season it'd be worth it. It's just the not knowing.
It's a bit worrying Forino can't seem to stay fit for more than 2-3 weeks in a row too.
It’s just the not knowing…I see where you come from but what right do you have to know things like this. After all, you are just a fan, nothing more. Grrrrrrrrr
The badge ‘croissant’ @BSE is the Staffordshire knot but I guess you knew that.
A condemned prisoner was told he would be released if he could produce a three man hang noose from just one rope - pull both ends and the three gaps tighten.
The mouse could also be someone's ashes which is quite dark alongside the scythe. Do like a pot up there though, at least they won't ever be left without a pot to piss in. Maybe someone could bring some back for the Frank Adams upper?
I see him as a squad player, as seemingly do Gaz and Dobo these days. Apart from enthusiasm he offers very little at the level to which we aspire. Wheels has upped him game, McCa has gone backwards over the past couple of seasons.
Harsh but fair, think he can do a job where needed at RB and probably hasn't benefitted from moving into positions that suit him less, but he might well have been moved on if he wasn't such a good character, or ironically if Grimmer hadn't stepped up to make that position one that doesn't need immediate attention.

Why do they have a croissant hovering above their badge?

It's a pretzel
He also went through a phase of wearing a German trench helmet in the dugout.

Nick Freeman in a previous job. Hope he starts today.

Maybe this will work.
He does!
Looks like a 3-5-2
What's it all about, Alfie?
Is it just for the moment we live?
McCarthy not starting is interesting… Wheeler RWB?
Matching them then. Makes sense. Great bench today. One of those where I think we’ll grow into the game. A classic away performance.
Pitch is in a right state https://twitter.com/James_BFP/status/1621860357131182085?t=gP2hkdk87LD4S6DpRA_POw&s=19

There are always some injuries that are hard to judge and 1 week goes on and on.
But they wouldn't have told us if he was out for the season.
The longer this goes on though, the lower the chance we "lose" him to another club though. And the risk moves to Alfie - can he get another deal?
Looks fine to me, you youngsters should've been around years ago ! 😬
Wheeler is a better player than McCa. in every position (can also trap a ball).

Just to be certain, you don't like McCarthy do you?🤣
When Taffs is the iron man of your three main CBs, you are living on a prayer.
I would start my usual diatribe about not wearing the quarters, but instead I will just compose myself in wistful silence.
If it's a back 3? We've seen JJ in a centre back combo recently?
Wheeler can turn out anywhere, but is he slightly wasted with the defensive part of the right wing back role?
And just to get in to the swing @Malone, who do I feel is overrated ?
Pretzel
Computer Mouse| Grim Reapers scythe
Football
Waffle| Mouse
Sure, why not. Less generic than most.
The mouse could also be someone's ashes which is quite dark alongside the scythe. Do like a pot up there though, at least they won't ever be left without a pot to piss in. Maybe someone could bring some back for the Frank Adams upper?
Let's not get into you overrating Pattison and underrating Vokes again, we need to keep you nice and calm.
Until 3pm anyway.

Spot on @Malone! But I’m pretty relaxed at the moment.
I’ll probably be waxing lyrical (but pithily) during the match about Nick and his great crosses to Big Sam. Hope so, anyway.
