The thing that suggested Anis was heading out the door to me was the suspiciously timed re-emergence of our chief financial officer. But let's see tomorrow.
I'm not going to pretend I won't be gutted to see him go, but if we get a good fee (he may have a release clause) then it can only be a good thing. This could be the first big block in building a Brentford-ish model. I have 100% faith in our recruitment team to identify a suitable replacement for anyone (I mean, Campbell looks like a fantastic pick-up), as hard as might will be in the case of Anis - but then he is an exceptionally special case.
Brighton probably an even better example than Brentford. Clearly, we're not going to build an extensive talent ID network and start bringing in unheard of players from Ecuador, but the same general principle applies. I'm just glad we're not one of the (worryingly many) clubs whose recruitment is still years behind.
We did actually replace him the other week with Curtis Thompson who was the outstanding Wycombe player on the pitch - so if we really did have to replace him we could with a fantastic player that’s all ready on the books.
Would love that but he would be behind Brennan Johnson in the pecking order…and Forest have signed about 26 players since June and they can’t all start!
Worth mentioning now that I know Anis’s release clause was £1m. I know this via one of the staff at the club. Can’t say who because it could land them in trouble.
Surely he can do better than Bristol City. I would have thought he would have set his sights on at least a team who would challenge at the top end of the Championship. If this rumour is true, I hope we have put in a good re-sale clause in.
We have really shot ourselves in the foot if that was the release clause. I assume we can still add in the sell on clause? Or will we just ask for three lollipops and a new set of fireworks if he gets sold on to Real Madrid?
It's going to take a long time to make this development squad thing work if Anis Mehmeti is only worth one million pounds. I hope Forino does not have the same clause!
As far as where he is going, on the one hand I don't mind Bristol City, and he has a better chance of playing, but on the other hand, any sell on fee might be less too, especially if they are unsuccessful in the relegation battle.
Do we jump in a car and head to Bristol to steal their fax machines and computers and destroy their phonelines? If the paperwork isn't received, the transfer doesn't happen...
Does anyone know much about lower league release clauses? In other words, was this clause us being totally amateurish, or is it usual for clauses to be a little below a player's value based on negotiations? It all seems a little stunning to me, as when we signed him to the current contract we already knew he was a starlet.
I was readying myself for saying goodbye, but having a few million reasons to have some consolation. Instead, it feels like we have painted the Mona Lisa and sold it for a box of cigarettes.
if we really have only inserted a 1 mil release clause then the need to sack who brokered that deal ...absolutely mugged off as per usual....thought GA and Pete would have more about them than getting our pants pulled down.......AGAIN

I'd just begun to believe that Anis was staying to the end of the season, but Chem is more or less a direct replacement isn't he?

You can replace Anis Mehmeti. I genuinely don't think you can't replace Josh Scowen.

But... When are we forming the human chain?
My heart says I hope Anis stays but the financial reality is that he has to leave for a decent fee either tomorrow or in the summer.
If we don't make money by selling Anis then it will be a failure of the sustainability model. Then we'll have something to moan about!

I’m sure it won’t come to that, however.
I think they were interested but as they have / will be signing Shelvey very soon, I don't think that they'll be looking for another.
Maybe in the summer but not now
If what has been said is to be believed, you might be too late.
Hopefully we'll see him in a Wycombe Shirt at Port Vale on Sat?

Sorry to report this but just seen on Twitter. He's a sports reporter for the Telegraph
Noooo!!!
Well then. I think we all owe someone an apology!

Gutting.
The Phil Alexander angle of this leaves a bit of a sour taste

@thecatwwfc - looks like you get your ITK credentials. Which means I am now worried about Mawson to Luton.
An excellent point and quite alarming really
Not sure what that means
See post above yours
We better get a good sell-on %

Not sure I can cope with him laying on passes for Mickey Bell's son to score.
Suppose a cheap release clause this time is marginally better than feck all via tribunal.

Get the feeling we've been screwed over here
A bit?

I don't know, but I suspect it was probably that or lose him for free last summer
