Does seem low If true but it's a question if what he was prepared to sign when we renewed. He would have had suitors to go on a free when his original deal expired.
If this is true, it make GA's Sky interview when we played Portsmouth a bit silly when he quoted saying £5m, £6m, £7m before we consider letting him go.
Before I continue with expressing my disappointment, I would be remiss if I did not say I wish Anis nothing but the best in his development. He has left us with a lot of memories, and I hope he finds the right clubs to reach his maximum potential.
If that £1 million release clause is true then that is a shocking piece of business, and exactly the kind of thing Phil Alexander would've known after leaving.
Hopefully this Chem chap is good enough to get us in the mix, but it figures to be a summer of upheaval no matter what happens, with all the other contracts expiring and us either (dream scenario) needing Championship players or (likely scenario) perhaps beginning to cut our cloth a little for the next L1 season.
Unless he was bluffing, GA was always talking about his phone being off the hook and Jack Grimmer talking about it being inevitable that offers would come in. Why would they make such a big song and dance of it if it was just £1mil? And why would GA make the comment about £5/£6/£7mil? Why hire Andrew Howard to negotiate a sell-on fee alone if the transfer fee was already decided? And finally why would the club have promoted Anis’ successes the way they have on social media (effectively increasing his profile) just to basically highlight his cheap availability to bigger clubs looking to take a punt?
Doesn’t fit the story for me.
The Phil Alexander side of this is really disappointing if he’s had anything to do with it. If we’ve really blown arguably our best ever young talent on the cheap to someone who’s probably still waiting for their final pay cheque from us, then it’s almost laughable.
fed up with the club acting like a non league club mentality , Rob said we are not little wycomnbe ...I'm sorry but proof in the pudding and if we do sell one of our most talented players ever for 1 million then we have only ourselves to blame....Rob has always talked absolute tosh
£1 million is clearly not enough for Anis on current form and I'd be hugely disappointed if that's the case. (Although less disappointed if we'll retain a decent sell on fee.)
BUT, receiving a 7 figure sum for one of our development team players just 3 (?) years after the model was established is an incredible achievement and shouldn't be forgotten. Huge credit to Gaz, Dobbo and Sam Grace.
Well I’m fairly confident in it. Ainsworth was clearly tongue in cheek with his “5, 6, 7 mil” comment. I would imagine the clause wasn’t well-publicised and so Gaz took his opportunity to try and get above and beyond the clause for the club. Like others have mentioned, it’s striking that he’s going to a club which employs Phil Alexander merely 10 days after he left us…….
And Bristol City have been riding close to breaking FFP for a year or so. Think that issue would be solved if they sold their midfielder which some think is worth £15m.
From the club who bring you "you're not allowed to know what injuries our injured players have, or if they're even injured at all" we bring you "let's send our CEO on his way to Bristol City with intimate knowledge of our finances at the same time as they're trying to sign our star player"
No-one ever use the competitive advantage bollocks again please.

No play offs for us chaps - selling with no time to reinvest. Appreciate it's part of the model, but pretty appalling timing.

Agent no doubt tries to keep the clause down too

If his release clause was only £1m surely he would have gone a lot earlier in the window. Absolute steal at that price. I’m dubious

Throwing some off the scent for a week or two maybe? Or just trying to keep things settled and quiet?
Here here
If true then this would be terrible news indeed. We are likely to never find out the true sale price.
Bristol City not my favourite club at all.
Exactly. He was very talented then. It kept him around for a lot longer than we might have had him.

Well that, plus the £1m we’re getting for Max tomorrow certainly puts a dent in that £3m deficit.
We never will as it'll go through as 'Undisclosed'. All clubs have that option if a player moves for less than £10M
Meanwhile, in New Orleans...
How sure are we about the £1mil release clause?

If @thecatwwfc is also right about Alfie Mawson I might be painting my "Couhig Out" banner tomorrow.
*He hasn't actually left yet
I'll be painting "thecatwwfc In"

Haha - an Office moment there.

Alex Scott?
Yeah
Anis could easily be worth £10m+ in a year or two's time if he continues on his current trajectory, but this still feels pretty shit

That's the same club who added the famous Matt Phillips clause too. Some things never change.
