When people scratch their heads over our drop off of form between last season and this, just look at Arsenal and Liverpool for how quickly things change.
The media were ready to declare Liverpool the best team ever last year, and were 2 games from an unprecedented quadruple. This year they look a shadow.
Whereas Arsenal have gone from perennial top 4 missers to looking pretty darn decent.
Refs are asked to consider proximity to the ball and natural arm position when giving a pen for handball. It’s a matter of judgement but I don’t think a ball booted from 2 yards away at a defender should often result in a penalty.
The inconsistency in the issue. The incident reminded me of Perisic in the WC final, and a penalty was given then. Also the Spurs player in the CL final.
Brighton midfielder Enock Mwepu forced to retire at 24 after being diagnosed with a hereditary heart condition. Gutting, but thank goodness for the medical advances that find these things.
In Bloom's post-match after his first win for Col U, he says 'Ref gave 9 mins of stoppage time, don't know where that came from... never seen 9 minutes added in my life'
Blooms is actually going to turn Colchester around, too. I think it will be uneven, with some bad patches, but I read a couple of comments on a YouTube video to the effect of "the players are clearly putting in maximum effort, chasing everything and playing for each other now" etc. etc., and I just nodded in recognition of the well known MO.
This was after the Manchester derby. After his goal v Southampton, Haaland is two behind where Dean was at the same stage. All comps isn't really a fair comparison as there was no European football in 1927-28, but if he stays fit (which has been quite a big 'if' in his career to date, admittedly) then it's hard not to see him breaking the league record (60).

But he's only a couple of inches from the ball. Those shouldn't be pens as you can't get your hand out the way.
The rule was always a "deliberate" handball.
But his arm was in an unnatural position. Isn't that supposed to he a pen?
Like John Barnes said, what is a natural position? You can't be running around with your hands down by your side all game.
Anything smashed at you from a couple of yards away should never be a pen.
I think that would make the game more entertaining tbf

Liverpool's drop in intensity from last season to this has been astonishing. A shadow as you say.
Yep, where to start with them.
Salah looks to be the classic case of issuing a huge contract just when he's on the wane.
The change in style has massively impacted him too.
Mane a huge loss.
Trent and VD having poor seasons.
Nunes looks a bit limited, a bit, dare I say Andy Caroll?
Centre mid don't have the huge engine to cover the gaps the full backs leave.
And we think we've got problems in our team
Trent has suffered the most from the structure falling apart. Just stick him in midfield where he's destined to play and put him out of his misery.

That's why they've stopped giving them as pens I think.
Although the Tottenham player had his hand right up in the air didn't he, not just at shoulder level.
In summary of this week's Premier League games:
VAR has had another shocker and been inconsistently used & applied
Man City won and Haaland already has s*&t load of goals
Chelsea are having a good new-manager bounce back to form
Arsenal looking impressive
Liverpool continue to falter
Newcastle are starting to look a good side

That goes straight in my top ten insults!

Incredibly short memory there from Matt
Haaland scares me a little https://www.footballtransfers.com/en/transfer-news/uk-premier-league/2022/10/man-city-news-erling-haaland-diet
He'll go far with that kind of stuff.
Needs to add some absolutes like saying how things are the best or worst he's ever seen to go full hog.
It was an interesting test on Saturday to see how I felt about things
I can confirm that I was definitely disappointed to hear that Col U had won
It is amazing that it has only taken 9 league games for "Haaland scores" to seem like a tired old cliche or a joke that is not funny any more.
I'm not going to credit him with a hat-trick anymore unless he scores six
I cover Colchester United as part of my job and every time I see Matt Bloomfield wearing a top with their badge on it makes me sick in my mouth.
Forest already into double figures this season for goals conceded from outside the box. Crazy.

If Haaland is involved in every game he can he'll play nearly 70 games and need to score nearly 100 goals to be at the same rate as DD.
But the absurd is, that's not out of the question.
In terms of goals/game, he's already scoring at over that rate 😂
”Our Dixie’s having a wee bit of a goal drought around game 30…maybe drop him to the bench for a week or two?”
Quote from the Gasroom 1928
That’s a ridiculous 6 minute “hat-trick off the bench” from Mo Salah
