Out of interest, if Wycombe and England were playing at the same time, which would people choose? Always Wycombe for me, but I may be in a minority of one...
There are World Cup games going on for this rescheduling though? Surely a night game in early December plus Brazil on the TV leads to a reduced crowd anyway.
I can see what the club is doing but for me I'd go Saturday 3pm regardless of an England game. It is much harder to travel on the Friday night.
*Need to caveat that with the fact that travelling to actually watch home matches this season is proving to be somewhat of a problem what with train strikes, cancelled games and the impossibility of getting back home by train from midweek night games. By Christmas (and assuming there isn't a strike called on 15 Oct) I will have been physically been able to make 3 home games. My season feels a bit like Wycombe's at the moment - a bit all over the place. So, optimistic about a good second half of the season for both of us.
Aye. As others have suggested a 1230 (or 1730) ko would have been sufficient if anything. England are highly likely to win the group. The probability x revenue sums haven't been done here (before you start considering the fans)
I would take England never winning another game if it meant a single promotion for Wycombe, which is of course very much on the harsh end of the spectrum as far as attitude towards the international game.
Probably nowhere near as patriotic as some though, as my heritage is split between England, Ireland, and the good ol' U.S.A.
There must be a logical solution to this that minimises the disruption to people. Friday night is possibly the worst option of all. Have the decision makers ever tried driving from junction 10 to 16 on the M25 on a Friday evening.
Possibly Saturday at 7.45pm might be a good option? Sky are covering Watford v Norwich City soon on a Saturday evening (15th October).
I think an issue with the rankings is that teams in lower quality regions always remain somewhat higher in the rankings - for instance, the U.S. get to play CONCACAF nations all the time, and it artificially boosts their ranking. I would assume Iran are in a similar position.
You can't realistically schedule it on the same day as a potential England game. If you want someone to have a go at, turn to those who awarded the World Cup to Qatar in the first place. The clubs have acted sensibly here and the made the best of a slightly less than ideal situation.

Wow. This World Cup keeps on giving. Can’t wait until it is over.
Friday nights are a pain for travel.

Always Wycombe. Particularly at this World Cup.
This is a good listen. Really hammered home for me how unsuitable a host nation Qatar is - on so many levels. https://open.spotify.com/episode/6vpADuobNEVelbB2qHOcQb?si=N4E6fjKlRtqjbhoOfgVaUQ&utm_source=copy-link
Without doubt it would be Wycombe but my phone would be showing the England game. The KO for Match 49 is also at 3pm.
They should have considered a 12.30 KO at Adam’s Park and put on the possible England game in the suites and a big screen in the car park.
Sensible move. Crowd would be way down if we played a game that clashed with an England world cup match

Puts to bed the electricity cost debate.
Hadn’t realize we’d have been playing at the same time as England. In that case moving it is the only decision to make.
Great, can't go now.
If we qualify and if we finish second.
Changing it now to Friday night we definitely clash with Brazils last group game.
Hang on, the knockouts start before the group stage finishes?
Always Wycombe, no contest.
Never mind, got myself confused!
Brazils last group game is on the Friday night at 7pm UK time
Our potential game in the knockout stage would be the first knockout game on the Saturday at 3pm.
Absolutely no contest. Wycombe every time*.

Surely even at this low ebb we'll win a group that includes Wales, USA and Iran!

On second thoughts the security issues around thousands of Wycombe and Pompey fans wanting to watch the WC game after would be problematic.
First time following England at a tournament?
Where do you travel in for home games from?
Is there a reason that the match being played the day after (the Sunday) with a 2pm or 3pm kick-off is not an option?
What is the Trust’s position on this?
England will play on the Sunday at 3pm if they win the group
In the week it is from ever I end up working. That is why midweek games are problematic.
Can't see that the club could do much else but this ludicrous World Cup will cost clubs at our level money.

But watching Wycombe is just like watching Brazil, it's just like watching Brazil, it's just like...
I'm glad we don't have to choose
Both have given me a lot of joy over the years

In terms of FIFA rankings we actually have the toughest group by far. If you add up everyone's most recent FIFA rankings in each group you get.
Group A - Qatar - 118
Group B - England - 60
Group C - Argentina - 94
Group D - France - 83
Group E - Spain - 75
Group F - Belgium - 83
Group G - Brazil - 80
Group H - Portugal - 110
