really? Bringing on a striker with 0 league goals and a midfielder previously sent on loan to Orient (and didn’t pull up any trees) as couldn’t get in the squad back then 🤷♂️
Not quite apocalyptic, I think, but there’s been very little to be happy about. We’re kind of a second-best-most-of-the-time team anyway, aren’t we, but there’s a worrying disjointedness.
I agree with Phil. I “saw” Grimmer booked earlier.
It’s been a totally forgettable game. We’ve had a good five minutes just before we scored, and about ten minutes either side of the hour but nothing apart from that.
its like everything Wednesday do is on purpose, whereas we’re a lot of hit and hope.
Let's be honest, if we're going to compete with massive clubs like Wednesday and Derby away we need our best 11 on the pitch. Our injuries are so frustrating, especially with the lack of information we have on the injuries.
@bigred87 to be fair Wednesday & Banon deserve praise, they are a good side that play decent football.
GA seems to suffer from the same failing that Southgate has in being to loyal to his favourite players even when they are clearly out of form as a number of his first shoice squad are. He also seems to be to rigid/limited in his team shapes/tactical choices as exemplified by his nearly always too late substitutions many of which are like for like rather than trying to change the game.
After the Grimmer first half foul, the booking of Mawson was shown on screen. There were two fouls within five seconds and I wonder if the first one was Mawson’s?
Tough run of games, and whilst we can argue only Scowen is out injured from the first choice x1, having the likes of Wheeler, Hanlan and Thompson as subs would make us a lot stronger.
Bringing Al Hamadi and Freeman on is asking a lot to change a game.
Agreed. I guess the question is how much more could we have done in the summer without spending beyond our means? Unfortunately, the chairman set the tone by bigging up how much stronger we were going to make the squad to mount a promotion push etc. Ok, we should be doing better than we are regardless, but I think those words mean a lot of fans will be less patient than they ordinarily would be.
Agreed we have the players to be a threat but we are not looking to have any shape at all. Mehmeti apart, no one has really been on form so far this season.
Plymouth and Oxford to come, so let’s see where we are after those two games.
They certainly should have been! Phil said as much on commentary at the time. It may be, as previously suggested, that Mawson, not Grimmer, got that one, hence the non-red subsequently.
Comments
Certainly not his fault, he clearly wasn’t backed by the Couhigs in the summer with the exception of the Alfie signing.

Grimmer booked twice but still on?

@ReturnToSenda you made the right decision. Barnsley apart this season has been really bad we've gone backwards massively.
Even a professional optimist can't argue that we're anywhere near the best 6 teams in the league at the moment.
Long season though and we'll get better. Will it be quick enough though to threaten the top positions?
FotMob showing Mawson and Grimmer both booked in the 67th min
While this is true, only Scowen arguably from the first choice 11 isn't out there today due to injury.
McCleary a different story. How costly was that red by the way - in effect that's 5 games he's missed including the Checkatrade!
What is there to suggest we'll get better? Or are you saying we can't get possibly any worse? 😂

Forino now to play up front no doubt,....
It may get better but we’ll be nowhere near the top teams as our squad (bar 4 or 5 players) is nowhere near the squad quality of those top teams
His inability to make changes or change the style of football is down to him. We've fallen off a cliff
For me it is as much our shape and tactics as it is lack of class.
What's the point in Ainsworth making substitutions on 92 minutes ffs.
Mawson, Taf, Mehmeti, Scowen, Vokes, McCleary are all quality in this division and we've plenty after that who are good players too.
Being in form and proving it obviously a different thing.
I can't get with this writing us off before we've even played our best X1 one time.
Now that's just insult to injury

Time for a break for me... no enjoying this, I can defeat but in the manner we play.

Do you have any stats about play off final losers in the next season?
Would imagine there's often quite a sluggish next one - we had that after Southend too, but wondered whether it is actual fact or just perception.
Not sure what happened here... not enjoying this, I can take defeat but we look hopeless.
Time for Rob to pen a letter?
Wing must really put a shift in during the week at training to always be selected.
OR
We've given him a high paid contract and made promises to him pre-season that he'll start most games.
Or we have Scowen, Wheeler and Thompson out, and Freeman hasn't shown much more?
