Totally agree Mr Halfempty, our close season has been woeful.
Teams that play our style of direct football, must have a strong spine and be organised at the back.
It's been a shambles, players playing out of position, constant changing of formations, late recruitment.
The ridiculous WWFC website headline today. "We've got our man", when everyman and his dog, know we have been involved in this farcial Bishop chase. Which has seen us forced to play a totally inexperienced rookie for the last 5 games.
I wondered where @glasshalfempty had gone. I was told when I bought my season ticket that it would entitle me to watch Wycombe play football. Are there other reasons? Don't think they were lying, though Tuesday night raised some questions.
I’ve never seen him play, but signing someone who has been a first team keeper at a higher level for the last two seasons seems a reasonable enough move.
He’s unlikely to be as good as Stockdale, but that’s because Stockdale was exceptional.
@Malone Now you’ve gone too far with that comparison!
The obvious response is this is not where we should be. Our recruitment should be more proactive and flexible than this. I would also question whether the problem has now been sorted.
'I would also question whether the problem has now been sorted..
Of course, you would, but as @davecz will tell you in football all recruitment/changes in formation/blooding young players is a risk. Hopefully, it pays off.
I love how @glasshalfempty is racking up the down thumbs for saying exactly the same things that half the gasroom hasn’t stopped posting for the last three weeks.
@Last_Quarter Banton leaped immediately to mind as the duddest of duds.
That said, I am still having therapy from when Gary Waddock signed James Harper and his subsequent ‘performance’ in a 5-2 loss at Brentford. That was truly a nadir.
Gareth Ainsworth has been very good with his player recruitment, which makes this window even more disappointing / baffling.
The new interview with Lee Harrison explains the whole Bishop thing pretty well, I think Man Utd must have pulled the plug really late on and our plans were in tatters. Lessons learned for GA & LH about having a plan B such as Max in the pipeline a bit sooner.
The goalkeeping situation has been shambolic but seems solved. It would have been ideal to get a CB in earlier, but waiting for someone of Mawson's calibre should prove to be a risk worth taking. As for a Bayo replacement, good luck finding a true game-changer who's happy to warm the bench.
However, I still think we're a CB light and need to strengthen at LB (which the reported six-figure bid for Ali Koiki would suggest Gaz and co. have felt for a while we do).
@glasshalfempty Gary Waddock's signings generally bring me out in a cold sweat, although James Harper was definitely one of the low points.
Although I disagree with your assessment of Max Stryjek and think he'll be fine, I largely agree with your assessment of the window as a whole. It has been a bit of a shambles, and even in our most-skint moments under the Trust we never started a season without a #1 goalkeeper. Hopefully lessons will be learned.

@glasshalffull I would like to object to being described as an ‘old chap’ but I am 47 next month so I don’t have a leg to stand on there.
@wwfcblue I accepted a job offer from WWFC, to be precise.
@Malone Not at all, I think we’ll comfortably avoid a relegation battle this season. Btw, you could try playing the ball, rather than the man.
It might be worth noting that Max Stryjek’s replacement at Livingston is Shamal George, who was playing for Colchester United last season.

Now there was shambolic recruitment 😉

Have you become Dev with that quote? That's not a likeness you really want.
Most of us are understanding this guy should be a big upgrade on the youngster we've had pushed into action way before he's ready.
It should be a source of joy we've sorted it.
Everyone knows it's a farce we took until 5 games in to do it, but we are where we are.
I was certainly punching above my weight, which at the time was quite a feat.
Jesus your a barrel of laughs, FYi was am amazing signing and max Is going to be better than Dickinson

Time well tell and our recent past gives us great encouragement in this regard
The fact you've had to go back 7 years to find an example of a dud signing is not the winning argument you think it is...
I don't want to be too objective, but here are the pros and cons as i see them
Cons: no English league experience, Scottish football is terrible, not our first choice
Pros: GA thinks he's the man for the job, which probably outweighs the cons, imo.
Yes that was too far in fairness, I take it back.
And yes, the "sorted-ness" is still very much to be proven! Fingers crossed.
Surely Parker would be a way more recent example.
But Gareth surely has arguably the best record of signing players since we entered the football league now.
Scottish Prem is probably better than L1
Still waiting for the signings that show our intent in the league GA!!!
How many years ago was the double dud signing of Max Mueller and Will de Havilland ?
Really poor defensive duo.
Mawson not good enough for you?
The top of the Scottish Prem probably is, i reckon the bottom is about the same level.
I love how @glasshalfempty is racking up the down thumbs for saying exactly the same things that half the gasroom hasn’t stopped posting for the last three weeks.
Is it even big enough to have a top and bottom...?
But he's still posting negatives after we've signed our goalkeeping hero.
Doesn't it split in half at home point? Often the team in seventh will have more points than the team in sixth.
@bluntphil Presuming you get to interview him soon, any chance you could ask him how it is pronounced?

Yeah, it does. I think everyone plays each other three times then they play the other five teams in their half once.
