The next 3 days in the Pyrennes decide the winner, obviously Vingegaard is in the box seat but is running out of domestiques, by the same token Pagacar has lost his key lieutenants, Thomas could be the dark horse but it needs Ineos to be really disciplined in supporting him.
Geraint has two maybe three potential opportunites this week. I think riding his own race and not necessarily sticking with the top 2 on every attack might just present an opportunity at the end of the week in the toughtest stage on Friday. If Pogacar keeps attacking Vingegaard, they may just lose their legs on Friday (unlikely I know but fingers crossed!).
Second opportunity is Saturday's 40km time trial, it really suits his style of riding and he might be able to claw some time back here. However, I suspect Pogacar will do well to.
Finally, Ineos team is still in tact, so they could exert some extreme pressure on Friday and try and crack both of them. Leaving Geraint to ride off into the sunset - I really don't see this happening but you never know!
Whatever happens it's been one of the best TdFs for a long time, given it was meant to be a one horse race.
I live on top of a hill, not a 16% hill, and I know that after a 4 or 5 hour ride my tactic is 'I'll just spin it out'. Felt for G but fingers crossed for the podium on that front.

What a fantastic read. Can highly recommend to anyone not just football fans. A real insight into a families life in the 50s and 60s and then a journey to find out more about a Fathers career in a very different footballing landscape.
The Vuelta has arguably been the best grand tour for the past decade in terms of excitement and battles... the tour was good this year but has been pretty dull for a while, (see Sky/inoes for reference). All in imo

But I suspect that you may not have spent 6 hours in the saddle first.
Pog had the advantage of a decent long warm up before his sprint!

These mountain descents always terrify me. I would absolutely make a complete Italian Job of it.

It'll never have the field quality of the Tour, but the sheer brutality of the climbs makes it as exciting imo
