If memory serves me right I remember being disappointed we didn't use him more as a target man, as he had previously been used up top as well as his usual cb position at other clubs.
if Mawson can reach anything like his former level, he will be an excellent signing for us this season and we can be a useful stepping stone to him resuming a higher level career next season. A win win for both parties,
on the other hand there is a reason why he has hardly played for a few seasons and no higher level club wanted him badly enough now.
cautious optimism from me recognising that success of any signing cannot be guaranteed. Never too high never too low.
Even if he cannot play 44 league games and every single round of every cup, we are a far stronger squad now. Play him as often as is feasible but making sure he is available to be the difference for the tough ones. If that means resting him occasionally, that's good for giving development players some more minutes on the field.
I agree with @DevC but I’m still extremely excited.
i guess I’m thinking that if Alfie can have the positive impact that Darius did when he overcame his injury situation, it will be, in the words of a legendary ex-manager, “monumental”. Even if the knee doesn’t go entirely to plan, we have another player of Vokes-level experience behind the scenes, which could be worth its weight in gold.
I get blurred vision as a result of spending far too long reading tiny print on the Gasroom. Sorry to hear you’ve got an eye infection. Can be very unpleasant. I did wonder if you had double vision when you said you thought it had 11 downward thumbs. 😳🙄
We'd struggle to get a better 4th choice centre back, with 2 of our defenders potential risks, and Forino still not to be expected to play 40 a season.
However, you feel 3 strong centre backs, then Grimmer and JJ for the occasional stand by middle roles is enough?
I thought he was a fair bit older than 29! But it's not realistic. We've already got to leave one player un-registered - are there two who we'd potentially be ok doing without for the season? I think we're all sorted in defence.

Happy to go on record as saying Little Chalfont is experiencing Mawson Mania, excellent news.
Confirmation that the chaps have absolutely got it.
Having a pop at someone during the transfer window is like judging a comedian before the punchline.
All Hail!

Oh, and I’m in the pleased camp.
Gary Doherty was superb for us, it was a shame his injury curtailed his career.
he looked good on Tuesday, very quick And direct

Just having him back for a season feels huge, and we need to enjoy every minute of it.
There's big conversations to be had in 2023 with all manner of factors, but for now Mawson is back!
Bishop
Grimmer
Mawson
Tafazolli
JJ
Scowen
Freeman
Horgan
Mehmeti

Mouthwatering.

Subs:
Tyla
Wing
Gape
Forino
Hanlan (injured right now)
Obita
McCarthy (injured right now)
Don't forget Thompson!
But of course.....
And KaiKai also. If all fit we have a very good squad and supplemented by our young group of players.

"And so, the pendulum swung all the way to unbridled optimism."

Or it could be the end for Wakely. If Grimmer & JJ being preferred as CB's over him, that leaves him as 5 or 6th choice CB at best
If I was being sarcastic I would have said signing Alfie is up there with Michael Duberry...!

Has Pierre got a new club yet?
If we signed him surely he'd be back up to Mawson,Forino and Taf.
Surprising if he's still free.
He won the player of the season at Shrewsbury in 2021, so to be released a year later seems curious.
Although wasn't JJ in similar terrain there?
No and nothing on anyone chasing him. That can only mean...........
Surprised Paris C-H is out of the game at 31 as well, sure he could do a job for a League 2 / Conf side?

I agree, Pierre would be a great squad addition and we are going to get injuries no doubt.
I thought Pierre had signed for Gillingham ?
Nope, there was a story mid July linking him, but for whatever reason didn't go through.
Nope, it never happened and it's all gone Wycombe quiet since.

Oh ok, didn't realise. This squad limit thing really is rubbish, I'd be more than happy to have him back as well
