Ainsworth has been trying to blend long throws into our style for a while now, but it’s never clicked because we don’t have a good enough taker. Hamer would clearly fit the bill. I would imagine this is the centre half that we believe we need.
The Ginger lad we signed on the strength of his huge throw. Trouble was he threw it towards the moon, and it used to drop down like a balloon filled with water.
Can't remember his name but I think he ended up at Wingate and Finchley.
I think it’s great (and very important) that we are gradually assembling not just a much younger squad but one which now includes several very tall players. Tafazolli, Forino and Wakely are all around 6’4” for example. If we did sign Tom Hamer, I think it would be as cover at centre back in particular but he is clearly a very versatile defender.
Your implication that I am obsessed with heights is misplaced.
Without wanting to sound like Gary Neville talking about his beloved United and their inability to get players through the door for there manager, but I think us either being unable to or not wanting to, replace two players that were genuinely championship quality before the season started has been us handing this window poorly.
by all means play the long game for players coming available but not replacing the Gk and our Cb coverage being so light could be suicidal to our seasons chances. Business should have been done early for those positions. Show confidence and intention for the new season.
this isn’t all on gaz/Dobbo btw. Maybe it’s the football operation backing them up unable to get things over the line.
10 goals in 150 appearances, pffft! Kidding of course, but this is from the ever reliable Wikipedia:
Hamer plays mostly as a right back but can also play as a centre back; his former manager Richie Wellens also said he can play defensive midfield. He became known for his long throw-ins when both of Athletic's goals in a 2–2 draw with AFC Wimbledon were the result of his thrown-ins.

Thompson has a good long throw...if we had two of those fellas it would be handy.
Obita can launch it too.
They are both steady options, but far from specialists up to the same standard as Hamer
As long as they play Can't Touch This every time he goes to take a throw, I'm all for it

Ryan Sellers I think?
Brilliantly put, sounds like it could be a good bit of business if it happens.
Thanks @DPR38.
You and your heights 😋
