I don’t know enough to understand what Wiegman has done with this team, but they are brilliant to watch. They flood forward in numbers, find space easily and play the beautiful game beautifully.
Maybe a simplistic view but seems to me they play a really high percentage of passes forwards. That and confidence which comes from scoring goals - we were so much on top once we'd scored the first. Prior to that Sweden could easily have been 2-0 to the good.
Is there a definitive list of women's international fixtures hosted by the club anywhere? I can recall attending fixtures against Germany and Italy at Loakes Park and there have been others. Things have progressed a fair bit since those days - I recall the Germans winning rather easily which I can't see being the outcome on Sunday.
Have you been watching the Women’s Euros ? Light years apart. But of course the remarkable developments in skill, fitness, speed of thought and overall football intelligence have been global and I agree that the England v Germany game on Sunday seems likely to be closely contested. Germany typically well organised and efficient. England playing the beautiful game, as they have throughout the tournament but not averse to the more physical side of the game.
I have tracked down some of the international details I was looking for. The Italy game was indeed at Loakes Park, the match against Germany at Adams Park. As the incomplete nature of information on this site shows record keeping of some of the most basic information seems to have been somewhat neglected. England Matches - The England Women's Football Team 1990-2000 (englandfootballonline.com) If there is a more comprehensive site then I'd be interested to know, this one has attendances, teams and goalscorers missing from so many matches.
A few years ago I tweeted some photos of the Germany game in the first season at Adams Park. I remember the German centre forward being very powerful and virtually unplayable.
@Steve_Peart thanks. Ms Mohr being a formidable opponent was something I remembered although I'd forgotten she scored a hattrick. Strange to think the first leg of a quarter final attracted around 2,000 people.
Bill Williams managing England for a period was a curious discovery. i wonder if the Lionesses of his day responded to Shakespeare in the same way as his Sutton sides :)
There was a game against Romania played in 1998. About 2,000 people were there and England completely dominated but somehow only won 2-1. It was my first ever women's match and I remember being impressed by the skill level, but things are light years ahead now since the birth of the professional era.

They think it’s all over
Goal of the tournament
Save and goal of the tournament!
I still can’t quite get over that goal. One of the best I’ve ever seen I think.
It is now.
Fran Kirby really deserved that goal, she has been superb today and reads the game so well
And what a goal it was.
Just need the ref to get knocked over by a smashed clearance and this match will be perfect.
I think that is my favourite non-Wycombe goal ever. It was pure genius. I do actually think my jaw dropped wide open
I don't know quite what it is England do, but they seem to somehow get under the skin of their opponents and really disrupt their rhythm & composure.
Anyway a superb overall performance from England and a well deserved win against the second ranked team in the world.
Every goal should be a backheeled nutmeg. None of this tap-in bollocks.
That was superb. Well done girls! I thoroughly enjoyed that!!! What a performance.... Showed our men's team how it's done. Scenes!!

Point of order: magnificent though it was, it was not a nutmeg
A nutmeg requires you not only to kick it through your opponent's legs, but to collect it the other side as well.
Thank you for your time
Maybe not strictly a nutmeg then but incredible speed of thought and brilliant execution.
French right back reminds me a bit of Sido Jombati!
Sorry - right centre back.
Are you all boycotting? Oh, sorry, you aren’t ‘reading’ me of course.
I'm here @micra. You mean Renard? (I haven't got my glasses on)
More like Pettigrew I think.

Oxford about to lose Cameron Brannagan (Blackpool have triggered his release clause) 🥳
And their fans are already in meltdown https://twitter.com/OxfordMailOUFC/status/1552582779598213120?t=4x34WnI-9q2snfxhG0J6hQ&s=19
