@Commoner Rotherham keep doing it because they get the windfall from spending every other season in the Championship! I hope they can finally make it stick this time, though.
If it's between an exciting unknown youngster (even if it means getting to grips with League football lime Forino or Anis) or a 'proven at this level' journeyman picking up a pay check... I know which one I prefer. Some posters were claiming experienced international Horgan was 'stealing a living' last term for example so its not a given that anyone we buy will please everyone. And we all know whoever we buy will never please some people! Rob C wants promotion and trusts Gareth to buy the players to deliver it. So do I.
Rightly so, Alfie Inge is a good couple of years past his best and we are stacked in midfield. I do like the sound of a Lime Forino in this weather though @Wendoverman, where could I find one?
Met Sido (in his foot protector) the day I went to sign up for my season ticket (in the olden days when you had to take a form in filled in with those pen things) he was very chatty to all of us handing over our dosh. Very nice guy, I was sad to see him go...though I do not miss the terror of seeing him in our penalty area getting ready to stick one of those legs out in front of a striker!! 😀
His was always the name I liked to see first on the team sheet.
i will never forget the exasperation Paul Hayes showed in trying to remind Sido (about 20 times a game) that he, rather than Sido, was the centre forward. Happy days
Sido will always be in my memory as a big part of our change from being a squad full of crappos who almost took this great club into non league, towards a direction of good characters and good players.
He, JJ, Hayes, Pierre has to be up there with any summer recruitment window we've had.
Who called him a glass half full dickhead? I didn't! I like his optimism. I just asked the question whether in light of our squad currently looking slightly weaker than last year's, whether pushing for automatics was over-optimistic. Just a question that's all. I for one hope he's right.
I also made no comment on what obviously have been the phenomenal achievements of getting to the championship, almost staying up and the play-off final again.
Didn't one of the players/staff once say "Sido could pick an argument in the desert" or some such thing? It was delivered with a smile meaning he was argumentative rather than nasty.
your initial was reasonable measured, it’s more some of the follow ups and comments to it, and in other threads, about our transfers this season which provoked my response.
In the old days when I purchased a programme there was a regular player Q&A and Sido was inevitably 'worst away room-mate' with everyone. In a nice way.😁
While I love GA & Dobbo's work on & off the pitch, I do worry about Rob C's comments. There doesnt seem to be any shared Plan B and C?
(All of these are "What If's")
How much patience will Rob have with Gareth if we don't get promotion this season? Rob always talks about Championship nex year etc etc but if the players and Gareth fail to live up to those expectations, will the axe fall?
If we don't get promoted in the season after 2023-2024, could Rob be looking for a way out?
Thoughtful post, @Otter87 - it will be interesting to see (though hopefully we don't have to because we are promoted). It is strange to think that we are on a run of our three greatest ever seasons, and yet that nosebleed territory could ever be considered not good enough!
Yeah, if we can't boost the budget a bit with the current management team , get promoted and grow that way, or run the Dev squad to find some gems for playing and selling, and we can't boost match day experience to retain people and take more match day spend, or make it easier for them to get here, or attract people to digital schemes and through overseas merch sales, and he wasn't prepared to wipe out debt in the first place I really wonder what his plan B is.

Still one of the greatest characters to ever pull on the quarters. 🍻 Here's to you Sido, hope you're still enjoying life.
you would .....challenge nothing...typical yes man/women
Let's face it, there'd have been moans even if we'd signed Haaland
I'll bugger off (again) then....

@YorkExile next aisle to the Tunnocks wafers next to the Grape McLearys
It was a good moment a couple of seasons ago having a run near Kingsmead, and looking over and clocking the great man himself coming out of a house.
Thought I was hallucinating for a moment, but had to stop and chat a bit.
Thanks, and glad you didn't take the phrase 'glass half full dickhead' the wrong way!
No offence intended @bookertease !
He came onto the terrace at an away game, near the end of season ??, wearing a protective boot while recovering from injury.
He was a thoroughly likeable guy. Wonder what he's doing now?
I like to imagine Sido backpacking around Europe with a dog eared copy of some obscure poetry, making friends wherever he goes.

“Sido Sido Sido”
”Oh Sido Jombati Oh Sido Jombati”
as you say happy day
Or as he told @bluntphil on a RTB podcast “bare foot walking”!
And don’t forget the Portuguese invented fish ‘n chips.

Ah, I love Sido. One of life’s great characters. He spent a large part of the summer so far exploring obscure parts of Bulgaria.
A fond memory of Sido was a heated conversation he once had with Anthony Stewart about the best method (his) to wind a small baby.

I recall it as “.. in a telephone box”, somewhat strangely! He’s a unique character. Thoroughly likeable.

Surely the answer is to put the key and turn it clockwise
I feel bad for whoever was winding their baby incorrectly - some sleepless nights there!!!
