Safe standing in PL and Champ from January

A trial at a few grounds initially, but hopefully it becomes a permanent fixture very soon. If it does, that ought to be good news for us if (when) we establish ourselves in the Championship as presumably we could just convert the whole terrace to rail seating.

Are there still rail seats in the family stand?
I'm pretty sure they're still there - the ones at the far end in front of the Woodlands lounge?
Yeah thought there was some in the Adams Apple area
Definitely some kind of safe standing thing - although not sure if they'd comply as the regulations are pretty strict.
Ah here we go: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/46302680
Coming up to their 3-year anniversary! Looks like they'd comply as well.

They are still there - don't think they get used much mind
Regularly used by a Wycombe legend in fact
Premier League and Championship given the go ahead for safe standing for the 22/23 season
Safe standing areas can be introduced in Premier League & Championship from 2022-23 - BBC Sport
Not before time as rail seats have been a fixture in German and Austrian football for a long while now. Hopefully it will become a requirement for clubs to offer standing accommodation to visiting supporters as standing in seating areas that prevents those unable to stand is a bigger problem away from home with everyone having to share the same section of the ground.
As long as safe seating will remain available I am all for it.
Not ideal for "limbs" though!
I think that when the Terrace gets redeveloped, it'll be a safe standing stand (maybe the first in the country). If it was converted right now, I think it will massively reduce the capacity of that stand and stadium as people won't be able to stand at the front like they do now and they will prob need to reduce the height of the sponsorship boards so that those in the front row will be able to see the game while being sat down.
Genuine question: why do people stand right at the front? The view is bad enough from the back of the terrace, never mind there where you're below pitch level.
@Otter87 Am I missing something? Why would people sit down in a safe standing area?
Rail seats are daft - what's wrong with just a rail? And why do we need one on every row? Surely league clubs up and down the country have proven that traditional terraces are safe. The only safety issue is making sure you don't exceed capacity.
They need rail seats at the top level so they can convert to all-seater for UEFA competitions. But hopefully UEFA will catch on.
That said, Dortmund lose about 15,000 from their capacity for European games cause a huge chunk of their standing area is just normal terracing.
Below pitch level? Seen that at Luton but thought our terrace floor was same level as the pitch?
Oh God. If ever something was unworthy of having a stand, or in this case block, named after it.
The ones in Germany normally have two steps between each rail, so the standing capacity is considerably higher than the seated capacity. German clubs also have many conventional terraces that function perfectly safely.
@ReturnToSenda I agree with your statement however if there are seats then the club has a duty to ensure that all angles and view points are catered for. All safe standing areas has a seat incorporated into railing that is behind that person.
The new sponsorship boards make it feel that way
Also if this was installed then when we get the odd England U-16/18 fixture at Adams Park, we can use the Terrace for supports to use!
It's very slightly below pitch level regardless - the whole perimeter is
For sure, I just mean we'd never need to have the seats down unless we got into Europe
Probably to distance themselves from being packed in with 100s of sweaty oiks but still capitalise from the cheap prices?
The bit i'm amazed by, is every time some oldie or kid gets clattered into railings and snapped in half, some colossal douche will pipe up saying "well, if you will have the audacity to stand there, it's what happens".
When idiots sprinting to cram into a small space shouldn't really happen.
Just celebrate where you are.
That's the major advantage of having a rail on every row with sage standing (although you do lose those Renaissance-style pile-ups).
I think the seats have to be free / sprung so that if someone wanted / needed to sit down, they have that opportunity.
If this was actually going to happen at the terrace, it would surely open itself up for children or older supporters to come into that area. Also I wonder if an area would open up to make the terrace more accessible?
@Otter87 "...if there are seats then the club has a duty to ensure that all angles and view points are catered for."
I don't believe they do. From what I understand, the new bus stop style "dugouts" that were installed now block the view from some seats in the main stand, when we have televised games the pitchside cameras can be directly interfering with line of sight for people near the front on any side and stewards can stand in front of people blocking the view, if deemed necessary. Think of all the older grounds also, where seats with views blocked by supporting pillars are sold at full price and with no warning of or discount for restricted views.
I’d be using my rail seat to sit down at HT!
