Agreed. It may be pedantic but I’ve always refused to join in with that chant “Wycombe FC, the team for me” at best greeted with arms folded and a scowl. Usually when the (infernal) drum beat signals its introduction that’s time for a much need jog to the bog for me.
It's interesting to see how supporters refer to the club. Evidently there are Plymouth fans who insist that the club always be referred to as 'Argyle' or you are not a true supporter. Bizarre.
Now you have put an amusing picture in my head involving a fan screaming 'Plymouth till I die!' at Home Park and his fellow supporters turning on him accusingly and saying 'Football or Rugby?'
It can happen, @railwaybeth and I were at Hundred match at Trent Bridge - where the Rockets wear yellow - and a local woke up suddenly, having previously spent time imbibing, to shout loudly "Come on you Reds"
Politically it has not been in Bucks since 1997, when it became a unitary authority. Geographically I think of it as still in Bucks, others may disagree.
Albion, Alexandra, Argyle, Athletic, City, County, (Dons), Forest, Hotspur, Orient, North End, Rangers, Rovers, Stanley, Town, United, Villa, Wanderers, Wednesday
Always quite liked the more unusual team name endings . While I get that Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire can have a club named after them, surely Stockportshire never existed?? Was there ever a Preston South End or a Leyton Occident and why did they fail? Is Accrington named after African explorers (I presume so).
According to a cursory wikipedia search, they were named after the county borough of Stockport, which sat within Cheshire and Lancashire but was an independent authority. The Local Government Act 1972 abolished this as it became the metropolitan borough of Stockport, a part of Greater Manchester

I join in with the chant, but insist that Wycombe Wanderers are the team for me. Rhyming couplets can do one...
Wycombe wanderers fc can be chanted to the same tune if said a little faster.... its just laziness 😒
Yep I always go with ‘Wycombe Wanderers FC your the team for me’. Works for me!!

It’s because there are other football code teams in the city that actually sound more like a soccer club, ie the Union code club are Plymouth Albion!
l love unique suffixes, of which I believe there are currently 13 amongst the ‘92 (well 12 if you discount the franchise)
You'll have @micra after you, if you don't amend the chant to "...you're the team for me".
Don't get him started on club v team either
🤣
🙈
Can we all agree on 'Oh Buckinghamshire .. is wonderful' at least?
Only the bits as far north as Buckingham itself
New third line...
🎶 Except the home of the Franchise 🎶
...although it's not strictly in Bucks any more.
That being the case ‘there’s only one team in Bucks’ is now factually as well as metaphorically true.
Many visitors are surprised there's subs in Bucks, despite it being a double landlocked county.

Has Milton Keynes been officially removed from bucks with a change of borders? What have I missed?

Nope, quite happy to cast MK adrift into its own little puddle.
Albion, Alexandra, Argyle, Athletic, City, County, (Dons), Forest, Hotspur, Orient, North End, Rangers, Rovers, Stanley, Town, United, Villa, Wanderers, Wednesday
I make that 19 incl. Dons
Some more in NL and below
I wonder if he meant unique as in ‘only used by one team’ - so you can remove City, United, Wanderers etc

Indeed, ‘unique’ so via current league table position:
Big fans of spiderman
In the Scottish Highland League I think @railwaysteve must support The Inverurie Loco Works

Excellent.
I always thought Argyle was the army link but just came across this article..
https://argylearchive.org.uk/uncategorized/whats-in-a-name/
i'd never come across the word 'Tartanitis' before either @Kim_il_Swan
it doesn’t count as a suffix, but does Athletic - as in Athletic Football Club Bournemouth - deserve an honourable mention?
