Can't see it selling out or anywhere close, a Tuesday night, villa yet again and then there's the pricing which was over the top for a carabao cup game. Cost me more then I pay for my ST. Again a reminder that my ticket for the previous round at Swansea was only £10.
I will be going, however I reserve the right to moan into my £6 pint of IPA about the prices......
Be lucky to get to 5000 I reckon. Personally a drive from the South Coast to Wycombe to watch Aston Villa reserves is not too enticing, especially as night games are so difficult to get back through the many roadworks and motorway diversions.
Bit weird that so many people turned out for City away in the same competition a couple of years ago, yet we don't think we can shift for than 4,000 for a home fixture against beatable opposition.
I'm quite out of the loop these days, having been a die hard, every home and away game, having a family and moving to Sussex have meant my visits to games have dwindled to literally 3 or 4 a season now.
Sadly I can't make the Villa game due to work commitments, however I'm shocked to see the lack on interest in the game.
I expected a sell out, with tickets being like gold dust. A cup game against a champions league team under the lights 20 years ago would have brought huge snaking queues at 3am just to secure a prized ticket.
Nowdays, even with what I consider to be a fair £22 on the terrace it looks like we will get around 6,000.
Crickey, I remember a sell out against slough town, with another few thousand watching from the woods.
I appreciate the game is on sky, but that hasn't affected crowds against bigger sides in the past.
How times change.
My main reason for not being desperate to get to games nowdays is the absolute toothless atmosphere both home and away - a fan base where ( in my experience the last 2 seasons ) anyone under the age of 30 seems to spend more time looking at their phones as opposed to singing and cheering the team on, seems to be the main issue behind the powder puff atmosphere I've experienced, despite being in the midst of the rowdy area.
Maybe I'm looking at things through rose tinted spectacles, but very few seem.to be totally immersed in the game, ready to go home with a croaky throat through singing your heart out.
Other issues i do accept and understand include the location and parking - nothing to do in the area - having to drive I can't drink. And a pain in the backside to park. Both of these can be overcome but do add to the apathetic approach.
The overall cost is an issue for some, tickets generally are not cheap, however i think £22 on this occassion should be acceptable for most clubs to ensure a bumper crowd, but it seems not for us. The incidental costs such as parking, food, drink can all.be avoided however shouldn't have to be - our food offerings outside the ground personally seem limited and expensive and not that great .
I was half hoping to come on the gasroom and see the excitement for the Villa game to be at fever pitch, and I would have no other option than to phone in sick and spend the night on a baying terrace.
It does seem odd that Villa, the best Villa they've been in 30 years doesn't feel that huge a draw, but it does feel lesser than the clubs you mention.
Maybe because we've played them relatively recently.
Maybe because there are so many games on Sky / online these days that it's simply an easier scenario to watch in comfort than smash £29 on your usual seat and all the other elements.
Their main stand was pretty full, but that was on the same side as the camera so probably not shown on TV. Just under 6k in total, which is respectable. As a side note, it was a five minute walk to the car park and I was away inside another 10, home in 50.
You wouldn’t have enjoyed Sixfields then. A sleepy 12.30 ko crowd and I was sat in front of a group of young adults who told me everything going on in the Man United game and how their bets were getting on. It was incredibly depressing but a sign of the times.
I think it was the fanzine One who even 25-30 years ago mentioned how people would wear premier league shirts to our game and give updates on their games during ours. And say "at least xxx won" when leaving our games.
Granted no smart phone mobiles then but people would have the radio on during games.
There has always been someone who can be heard saying 'Halifax just equalised' etc regardless of whether it was via a crystal earpiece or a smartphone.

Looks like ticket sales not going so well at the minute for Villa.
Approx 3000 sold in the home ends.
Be interesting to see where we end up on the night.
If we’ve got 2500/3000 empty home seats I think we’ve missed a trick. Only time will tell.
Only 5,365 watched the 8-3 drubbing.
League Cup matches are never well attended
That’s pretty good considering they havent even gone on general sale yet
and that was at thrilling peek Gormania
Shame we had little more than a peek at peak Gormania.
It's unfortunate enough to produce a fit of pique!

Little bit of 🎣there @micra , over 1hr 30 to respond but you win, nothing from @Malone - must be doing the Saturday shop?
Hadn’t realised that! I’ll pipe down 😀
We jobshare the policing on here.
Plus I needed a break after your monstrous attempt at using our fine language a few weeks back.
Assuming 1800 Villa fans, the best qe can hope for is the mid 6000s.
😅Not so much using, more like abusing!
I am open to some creativity on lingo.

Lots of empty seats at Sixfields today weren't there?

I was just looking up the Wycombe attendance, and I hadn’t realised before that Cole Palmer scored his first senior goal in that game.
It's amazing how things change.

It looks like that won't be the case (Sadly).
Doubtless the erosion of the importance of the domestic cups plays a part in the apathy too.
I love the cups but our last home FA Cup match against Morecambe would have tested the resolve of the most die hard fan.
Oddly I’d probably be more excited about a local B&B cup game but that’s just me.
This game was never going to sell out or be an 8k plus attendance, not in a million years.
If it was Man Utd, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, Spurs then maybe, but not Villa.
If this was an FA Cup game then it would sell out, like it did back in 2016, but the FA Cup is a very different bag to the League Cup.
Has the club done anything to even promote the game yet, asides from a few tweets?

Attendance at home v Villa in 2005 was less than 5.5k

Aston Villa are so boring though. Plus we play them every couple of years.

You say this but has it really changed that much?

Granted no smart phone mobiles then but people would have the radio on during games.
And it will mainly be their reserves.
