Think there were signs of things are changing for the better , think the injury to Jack unsettled us and they got their early goal. We scored two and should have got more so there are goals in the team . A couple of first starts as well and maybe the nerves got to them, we will see. Don’t think Wrexham will be making it 3 promotions in a row on that performance.
His passing was poor, as were many. So many over hit passes. No connection with Josh or Bakinson (who was terrible). I assume Butcher is injured as there is no way he should be benched.
Wrexham stuck men behind the ball and invited us on knowing we didn’t have the quality to hurt them. They were in control of the game from start to finish, they just put the brake on after the break.
We didn’t show enough quality, intensity or belief to win the game.
I think there are big question marks over our recruitment strategy after that.
Lots of moaning about Hartridge on here, but frankly Harvie was shite and balls over the top of Low were cleared up on a few occasions by Hartridge. Add in a new GK too, and I’ll reserve judgment on him.
However Harvie and Bakinson filled me with zero confidence whatsoever.
What I would give to have them replaced by Jordon Obita and Curtis Thompson.
On the plus side Udoh showed lots of promise for us when he came off the bench.
Also well done to the travelling fans, a terrific effort by you all 👏
We were dogshit first half, that happens, much better second half if not always the brightest decision making, thought all the subs contributed and actually retained and moved the ball forward which helps, Harvie won the ball back a few times, maybe we don't need another ten signings. Vokes would have been looking forward to this for months and probably should have been on earlier, looked sharp enough. Looking forward to seeing more of Udoh , looks like he could be a real difference maker.
A bad individual performance is always forgivable but Harvie looked like a rabbit in the headlights. Comparison to last season when we blooded a stupid amount of players in game 1, but I would say some of those arrived late to the squad. All of these new guys came in at pre-season. Yet we looked shambolic at set pieces and generally like strangers in the centre of midfield.
You’re exactly right. I actually favour playing 4-3-3, but not if it means turning the best DM in the division into a mediocre number 10. If Luke can’t play there we need someone who can asap.
Some good moments and some horrible ones too. Strange 3-2, didn’t feel like a ‘thriller’. They have some seasoned pros in McClean, Lee and Fletcher and punished us at the vital moments yet with a bit of luck we could’ve clawed something from the game. Better than last season’s opening day horror show at least.
And how many of those games have you watched? Because they clearly did something right in those ones or they wouldn’t have those numbers. Both were poor today, both deserve our full support moving forward

There's always the doubt on whether Taf is fully fit, but you'd assume this time round it was a tactical selection.
Am sure he'll come in midweek in the cup.

I thought he looked really good.
That's positive. Hopefully that will boost his confidence and he'll start getting a couple of goals in the near future.
I think basically he was anonymous, but understandable as it was his first game🤷♂️
Could have been a lot worse judging by the first half. Let’s hope we can improve

3 points off the playoffs....
Yes there’s a bit of a sense with the midfield at the minute that 4 into 3 doesn’t quite go and it doesn’t really balance.
Moving Scowen forward to accommodate Bakinson seems an odd move.
And Leahy and Butcher as left footers are both really looking to play in the same position.
Lonwijk didn’t have a great start with us either - remember a pretty shocking performance at Stevenage, possibly his first start.
Positives to take way, plenty to work on, hopefully we can get a few points on the board soon and get season going.
Really think Kone is going to score a hatful this season. Udoh made a difference when he came on, great to see Vokes score.
Liked glimpses of Bartolo too, considering he’s only 18 think he could be quite exciting,
Surely you just have Scowen and Butcher holding and play Leahy in a more centrally advanced position? I don’t think it’s rocket science myself.

My guesses on the new boys:
Bishop will be great.
Udoh will be good to great.
Harvie will be fine/serviceable.
Bakinson will be hot and cold but have some moments.
Hartridge either needs to kidnap his evil non-football playing twin and get his place back, or it will be a long season.
There's plenty of room for the new signings to improve, let's put it that way!

I would suggest we don't currently have such a player in the squad
I remember Terry Evans debut at Hereford, how crap he looked and how he managed to get booked within 30 seconds of coming on. He got better...
It's first game of the season folks, give them more than one game eh ?
We weren't great but still could've and probably should've got something out of it, there's a long way to go yet.
On that theme, Steve Brown’s debut certainly did not indicate what was to follow.

Putting a pound in the swear box, I agree with @eric_plant
Just embrace it Doc
Controversially, I always tend to give it a bit longer than 90 minutes to make a judgment on a new signing
Not seen it mentioned yet, but the tackle that left Kone on the floor right before he scored really should have been a penalty right?
Alex Hartridge has played a bit longer than 90 minutes. He’s made over 150 appearances for Exeter City.
Tyreeq Bakinson has almost 200 career appearances.
That’s more than enough to make a judgement on a player.

Do you expect those players to come in and immediately give 10/10 displays?
Both poor today but not as bad as Nigel Longwijk at Stevenage. What happened to him?
