It was a very bendy lane through woodland and nothing like it is today. The path that runs (I assume it still does) from Priory Road to Hamilton Road along the top side of the cemetary had quite a gentle incline and was quite a nice way to walk or cycle to and from the town. I remember a large numnber of us boys walking down it enroute to see the film Henry V at the cinema. The play was being studied for School certificate
I think that what would have been the old road through the trees on Green Hill was still there when I was at the RGS - I'm talking early '70s @wingnut.
There was certainly evidence of an old tarmac road up through the woods anyway.
I doubt very much there is any sign of that road now. Unless the squirrels are using it for Amazon deliveries of course.
I have frequent Amazon deliveries (I’m slightly ashamed to admit) but I’ve yet to slap eyes on the deliverer and I’d be amazed if they turned out to be squirrels. More likely to be young lads ringing the bell and running off, I’d have thought.
My attempt at a witty comment falls flat, due to poor wording @micra.
I meant to suggest that Amazon might use the old roadway to deliver packages to the squirrels - mixed nuts and the like. It should be obvious that squirrels don't deliver packages for Amazon. Although ...

Of course they're not delivered by squirrels you silly boy!
I’ll come clean, @Twizz. Some time after my own feeble witticism I twigged what you meant. I had been barking up the wrong tree.

Presumably he based Mordor on Slough?
Amersham
