I am merely a youngster, but I'm not sure many companies would allow someone - even a relative rookie - to take them steadily backwards for the best part of a year without intervening.
And this is football, not the business world - he's had plenty of time. 'Faith' won't get us anywhere.
Striker crisis, goalkeeper crisis, poor run of form...are the things that every manager will have to face. Earlier in the season we were playing good football...I am still hopeful of a turnaround.
Spot on. I love Pattenden's personality and attitude, and I think he has done very well within the context of being drafted in as almost an emergency, but I think the high grades for him are factoring in lower expectations, rather than seriously comparing him to what we are missing there. McCarthy, for instance, is a superior player in both directions, but gets derided as he set a high standard as a former Player of the Season and Championship player who clearly had a down season by his standards last season.
I think this is a very perceptive post. I am not a big fan of playing out from the back, particularly at our level where mistakes are more common than they are in the PL. Matt has been unlucky to lose his most creative players like Potts and Leahy and his most effective ‘plan B’ in Vokes and perhaps a more pragmatic approach is called for until they are available again.
I don’t agree that we try and pass it out of the back. The extent of this is Stryjek playing a 10 yard pass to Scowen, who is not best placed to build out from the back. And then the ball goes out for a throw in after a pass is overhit. Or we go long again. I don’t think our recent approach is too much different from Ainsworth’s.
I don’t keep a record of such things, but I think you have probably set a record for the number of posts about a game you weren’t interested in watching.
My definition of trying to play out from the back is withdrawing two defenders into your penalty area for goal kicks and starting attacks in your own half. Ainsworth Instructed his keepers to hit it long and start attacks in the opposition half. Big difference in intent if not always in practice.
Some fairly limited posts on Tommo and Gapey above, releasing them due to the lack of games last season wouldn't have been an easy or matey decision and replacing them with Leahy and Potts was not bad work
I just remember that whenever I saw us play a team who started passing from the goalkeeper to a defender either side behind the edge of the penalty area I used to have an inward smile.
it saddens me beyond belief that we are that team now.
I’n not in the Bloomfield Out camp (yet anyway) as there were glimpses of a successful and entertaining team prior to Potts getting injured, so personally I think we do need to wait and see where we are a month after Potts returns (assuming it is this side of the New Year).
But I am with pretty much else on here in wishing we’d lose the 3/5 at the back.
We saw how useless Rochdale were a couple of years ago trying this approach and look where they are now. We don’t have enough quality in our team to play the way MB wants, that is the problem. We must be very pleasant to play against at the moment.
For me Bloomfield needs to change approach otherwise I’d be getting on the phone to GA in the very near future.

They added intensity, but not sure they are tempo players as such. Tempo players are more the playmakers who set the...tempo for the team aren't they?
Pattenden more useful than Vokes.
That's enough Internet for today I think.
A 'tempo player' is a Xavi or a Pirlo

Morecambe at home to Chelsea in round 3,good luck to them.
No they're not - they're away to Swansea
Arsenal vs Liverpool.....that's the final come early.
And it's Morcambe away to Swansea, you cheeky boy.
Sunderland v Newcastle - tasty!
My mistake i was trying to do 2 things at once, oops!!
Did you get the other thing right?
More of lament, really.
Is that first 'smell the coffee'of the Bloomfield era?

We were?
Blimey, from watching the Eastleigh match I’ve just found out there was £67,000 prize money at stake yesterday.
So a financially costly afternoon too.
One step away from ‘wake up sheeple!’
Yeah i was sending a text message to my mate which he got.
If FGR get to play and beat Blackpool, they have drawn Nottingham, the club they almost merged with to become Forest Forest.
Rivalry.

You are correct micra, don’t know how that happened. Another senior moment probably!

Martin O’Neill used to have the perfect philosophy for playing football. It went along the lines of…..
“When the ball’s in your half you play like (the old) Wimbledon. When it’s in the opposition half you play like Brazil”.
You can’t really argue with that!
Football has changed quite a bit since 1995...
