So was mine. Based on some of the ridiculous comments around Lyle that sometimes pop up on here. Maybe missed its mark.
tbh, I was fairly surprised to see him on the team sheet. An ikpeazu @ Vale style slowly introduce him into the squad from the bench was what I expected.
Breckin still doesn’t look anywhere near the required standard. If you asked a neutral which player was on loan from Man City they’d guess everyone before Breckin.
It's very pre-season, they must have decided JJ and him would only get 45 in advance.
Wonder if Sadlier will become the new Freeman😀, seems to play well when he plays and then head back to the bench regardless of injury crisis or performances.
If that Southampton rumour is true at all and he's being watched he might want to try harder, but tbh if he just doesn't fit or isn't up to it, you have to shake hands, wish well and move on.
Had to mute the sound, assume normal home games aren't such a mess?
And good to see somethings never change, we scored, and you had someone down doing their laces up for ages AND the keeper sitting down for no particular reason.
Ravizzoli - really solid & composed, good penalty save, looks a great back up to Max
Woodhouse - looked really solid and assured when he replaced JJ - another good back up in the making
Clark - decent game, didn't really put a foot wrong but could have benefitted from playing alongside Scowen or Potts
Breckin - odd flashes of why he was rated so much but too little to move up the pecking order, like Clark would have benefitted from being alongside Potts or Scowen
Boyes - another very good game, great loan signing
Pattenden - another decent game, still a little lightweight in his defending but improving each game he plays
Taylor - got into decent positions, workjed well to try to create spaces/openings despite relatively poor service to him
Sadlier - looked solid throughout and scored a really clever goal, probably needs to start a league game soon
JJ - good to see him back & did nothing wrong in his time on the pitch
Grimmer - as with JJ, but also that superb run forward deserved something a little better than a "defenders" shot at the end
Tafazolli - looked really solid & commanding & marshalled the defence well
Wheels - as always gave his all & worked really hard up front to make stuff happen
Keogh - solid but scares the shit out of me with his lack of speed, which is only marginally compensated for by his positioning & reading of the game
McCleary - good in flashes, but his form seems to have dipped as of late
Overall it was a decent performance if a little slow & ponderous at times. It is clear what Blooms is trying to achieve from the way the team played, they just need to have a bit more confidence & be a lot more deliberate/incisive with their passing, but it is definitely getting there.
Thanks for this, always good to hear views on the fringe players and whether any look they might have potential.
Whilst I certainly haven’t written off our league chances when the season’s not even halfway through, I don’t feel we’re consistent enough for a playoff tilt this time round, so a cup run (even in a shite cup) may be a good tonic.
Wow - I just checked based on this comment, and did not realize how many U21 sides are doing well, especially in the south portion. Hopefully they all lose in the next round!

I think @TheDancingYak knew it was a joke, just thought I’d clarify before you know who berates me.
More of this please our notoriously fascist overlord.
Think we might be fuming about a goal that possibly went in if anyone was watching or cared enough. Anyone see it?
Surprised to see him giving a Black Power salute.
He has played in three internationals for Montserrat this season.
It was impossible to tell from the camera angle.
Nick Freeman
(Sam Avery I think)
2 and a half
That’s enough of the commentary for me - on mute now.
More entertaining in the second half, but that isn’t saying much

Sads has been excellent though.

It really makes you question the standard of academy matches given the rave reviews Breckin was getting.
664 turned up to watch this.
Really does Breckin has been disappointing so far this afternoon
Deserved goal for Sadlier COYB
That’s a very clever finish from Sads.
Good for Sads to get a goal.
Thought I'd jinxed him, injured straight after but got up and scored a cracker👍🏻
Perhaps he doesn't really want to be here?

Decent chance we’ll have a B team in the second round, given that we’re guaranteed a home tie and they have to play away games.

Dead rubber, another nice chunk of cash for the win. The EFL Trophy and FA Cup will look nice together on our mantel!
Woodhouse was the stand-out for me. Good to see Jacobson, Grimmer and Scowen back on the pitch.

I thought McCleary was really decent when he came on, getting on the end of loads of balls down the wing and generally looking threatening.
A big step up from Taylor who seemed massively off the pace.
