Attendance Prediction Blackpool (h) - Sat 15th September 2023 - Match No. 7
Schools back. Heatwaving over? Two wins in a row on a Saturday! Two away wins in a row!! New signings to see? First home game in ages. Even longer since our last Tangerine Dream. First game that I will see live in person this season. [I have faith and already tickets for Charlton.]
So much to ponder so I will leave my answer until the weekend.
Anyone else is welcome to start this one off.....
Everyone is welcome to join in, whether or not you are partaking in the season long competition.
Happy predicting 🙂.

to be fair we’ve had a game abandoned even later than that!
Pardon me @bookertease.
Have you drifted off-thread?

Looks like it! That belonged on the Scunthorpe - Buxton thread...
The Other Football thread. The game you mentioned was abandoned with two minutes left to play, I think, so I don’t think we could “better” that !
We did @micra. Abandoned a penalty shootout due to a fire in the tool store under the away end, IIRC
A safety officer had real power in those days

The difference is the fact that, as I understand it, the ref at Scunthorpe (?) would have/should have known that there were only a couple of minutes left whereas the amount of time left in a penalty shootout is indeterminate.
The absurdity of the referee’s decision at Scunthorpe was the fact that only two minutes remained and there was, I assume, no danger to the players, however farcical the football during those two minutes might have been.
A fire at a point near enough to the players and fans to be potentially dangerous and at a stage in the game (a penalty shootout) when the remaining length of time could be considerable (witness Selhurst Park 2001-2) is a very different matter and, unlike at Scunthorpe, outside the referee’s jurisdiction.
If only I could get out more !!
I don’t disagree @micra. The two are very different but I do quite like that we have had a game abandoned after 120 minutes on our records.
i also think it probably did save us. All the momentum into the shoot out was with Oxford City after they had held out (quite comfortably I seem to remember) for a draw.
No way of knowing of course but optimism was in short supply around me in the FA stand.
I've looked at the footage and it looks for all the world to me as though the ref decided to blow for full time a couple of minutes early
I'd imagine someone then had a little whisper in his ear to tell him "erm....you can't actually do that" at which point he claimed he was abandoning the match
If you see, and more importantly hear, the footage he definitely gives the three blasts on the whistle which signal the end of a match (or half)
