Blues head to Hampshire on Saturday for their third pre-season friendly, but the first to be played in front of fans as Wanderers supporters get their long-awaited opportunity to get a glimpse of Matt Bloomfield's new-look side.
Practice games against Arsenal U21s and Dagenham & Redbridge have helped boost fitness levels and now there may be more of a focus on performance and team shape as preparations continue for the start of the 2023/24 League 1 campaign.
New signings Richard Keogh, Kian Breckin, Luke Leahy, Harry Boyes, Kane Vincent-Young and Joe Low could all feature, while a precautionary approach is still being taken with a handful of players who are recovering from knocks.
Think Grimmer, Scowen, Vokes get straight in for competitive games if fit, JMac probably ahead of playing people on the wrong side so not too surprising it's a bit of an odd line up if some have knocks.
I always think pre-season is a bit disjointed. We are two weeks from the start of the season and we have players ill and with knocks. The team playing today is missing 4 or maybe 5 of our day 1 starters.
Nice to see the new players but hopefully we can get nearer our starting 11 for JJs game next week.
Yeah, someone from that back 3 probably needs to play in midfield so JJ moves across and Vincent Young plays RWB? not sure who is most comfortable Tbh if any.
Commentary interesting, pre-season affair, much catching up and in depth looks at all their new players, not much mention of ours or what is happening at any time, with occasional cutting off to sum up for the live radio feed giving Jonathan Pie vibes.

Nice
Ooooh, season feels close once the match day badges are back up.
‘Less is more’ as Mies van der Rohe would have it. Presumably phoenix from the flames inspired ref to ‘92 replacement of Town?
BBC suggest it’s on Radio Surrey but the station schedule doesn’t show it?

'may be' and 'could'......
All the new players in the starting line-up bar the goalie.
Starting XI of Stryjek, Jacobson, Tafazolli, Breckin, Leahy, Boyes, McCleary, Keogh, Low, Mellor, Vincent-Young.
6 defenders? Possibly playing Boyes further up the pitch with JJ at LWB although seems unlikely. Maybe something Blooms is trying out?

Maybe it'll be:
Styjek
Boyes Taff Lowe Keogh JJ
Leahy Breckin Vincent-Young
McCleary
Mellor
Maybe not
I think Harry Boyes has played left wingback quite often. Don’t see JJ there, that’s for sure!
Must try to find BBC Surrey on t’internet. Presumably they cover Hampshire as well.
Chairboys' bench today is made up of Shala, Young, De Barr, Pattenden and five trialists. (Twitter)

Maybe Lowe up front?
He certainly has the height but I’m hoping height up front is going to become less of a “thing”.
I can’t imagine Taff or Keogh anywhere other than CB, so maybe Lowe as a Josh Knight style CM?
If you go to the ‘Wealdstone game moves’ thread @micra there is a link to bbc sounds posted by @Vital which connects to the commentary I think
That's the one, seems like the standard BBC Surrey feed is different
JJ Centre Mid
Commentator says a big flag is at the game.
Maybe 442?
Goal for Mellor?!
It’s 5-3-2, JJ is playing centre mid.
Sounds like a lovely goal from Mellor. Two in two now.
The radio commentator says it was a deflection.

Looks like it took a slight deflection, but still lots to like in this clip!

Doesn't look like it from the clip on Twitter https://twitter.com/wwfcofficial/status/1682768181344059393?s=20
Mellor seems to be enjoying preseason. He's gonna be a League One version of Andreas Pereira or Anthony Martial isn't he
Decent goal. Good strength. Intelligent anticipation. Confident run. Even if the finish got a deflection he got the shot away.
David Mellor will be a big player for us this season. 15 goals
Yes decent goal. Those commentators made it sound like a pure fluke. The lad show pace control and strength to get that shot away. Well done Mellor!!!
