I think we'll do signings late partly out of necessity (we are not a destination club) but for those saying it doesn't matter when they come in, I think a transitional summer where there will be a lot of new faces would (ideally) be a good year to have them in early and start the gelling process. I just don't think Wycombe are ever going to be a club where a significant number of players choose us in June.
I find the whole thing exciting, as there is an added air of mystery between the manager transition and the squad transition. Life is a box of chocolates, etc etc.
Really enjoyed that training video too. Nice to see Wheels on the bike, though I have no idea how far along he is into recovery. Is this the year Jasper and Jack Young make a leap?
Also, good to see Josh taking the 4 shirt. I am a fan of the 1-11 shirts matching expected position. Though I have become aware that people talk about the 4 as the 6 nowadays - I have no idea when that started, as it seems like a PL thing.
Goalie should be No1, Left and Right Backs should be No 2/3, with the centre backs as 4/5, 7/11 for left/right wings, 6/8 for the two midfielders and 9/10 for the centre forwards. It should be illegal to set up any differently and a strict 4-4-2 should be enforced to make this happen. Whoever invented squad numbers to be instituted as our modern Guy Fawkes and ritually incinerated on 5th November. NB - that's not the 6th November because you have Ed Sheeran tickets on the 5th, it's not the weekend before or the weekend after because then you can invite people around and handily avoid a school night, it's on the day itself because otherwise it means nothing.
So in short, I'm not a fan of Scowan wearing the No4 shirt, he's a No6 all day long.
It's a sign of the times, news is consumed in bit size pieces designed to appeal to those with little attention span and aimed at social media.
People want, and many believe they have a right to know, every piece of information now.
Bring back the days when you had to wait for the BFP or maybe the Midweek for information on the trialists who played on the previous Saturday in pre-season games.
I see our old friend Joey Barton has just signed a player who was charged with assaulting two women. He admitted one charge and is awaiting trial on the second charge which he denies.
Agreed! I am not even sure when this 6 business started for the defensive midfielder. There is an interesting history as to how the shirt numbers ended up where they did (in this country, per Tom's post above), but 6 was never the defensive midfielder. I am not sure when it started, but even in the late 90s/early 2000s Jaap Staam was 6 for Man United as a CB, Patrick Viera was 4 for Arsenal as a DM, and so forth.
Assuming it is true, it was unlikely he would have chosen us over Rovers as he comes from south Wales, lives in the West Country and played for Bristol City. Also, he has family who live in Bristol and as he’s 34 I can imagine the comments if we had signed him.
Speaking of which, Bristol Rovers have just signed Jevani Brown, a man who is pending trial for assaulting a woman in public. Very much in the mould of his new manager!
Yes, my addled mind cannot get back far enough to access yonderyear, CBs were always 5/6. That has saved a season of minor irritation on the Scowan numbering front, I can sleep easy tonight.
Football can be a cesspool on this topic. He kicks ball in net well, yes he beats the occasional girl up, but the kicking the ball in the net bit.
The Greenwood saga at ManYoo is still not over. The police might not have been able to get a charge but the world saw the videos and heard the audio. Not sure how they are going to square that circle. A loan at Bristol Rovers to rehabilitate him maybe?

We should sign this guy https://twitter.com/FBAwayDays/status/1673058186855579648
If the good @drcongo cared for us he’d lock every thread apart from guess the ground until August 4th.

It was traditionally 5 and 6 as the cbs and that's the way I like it with 4 and 8 the cms
Depends on the country - in Argentina, the back four is traditionally numbered 4-2-6-3, which is just anarchy!
sorry *england
I was going to say myself, I always had the center backs as 5 & 6
Also known as the correct way.
And you had no idea what other clubs were up to.

We failed with a last-ditch effort to sign James Wilson apparently: https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/james-wilson-bristol-rovers-barton-8522237.amp
We need to get it together fast
I still get confused when people talk about a no.10 as a playmaker or a big centre forward.
Gary Lineker was England's no.10 for ages and he wasn't either.
Banks 1 - Cohen 2 - Wilson 3 - Charlton J 5 - Moore 6.
With the great Nobby Stiles wearing number 4 in midfield.
Alan Ball at no. 7

If someone would rather play for Joey Barton than Matt Bloomfield i'm happy to miss out on him.
Maybe he is intending to add headbutting to his game and needed to go to the guru.
Not forgetting Peters at no.16 and Hunt at no.21🙄

The crosser or the finisher??
Both!
Do we believe this?
