Well I for one love today. First day back at training. Photos of players jogging around in new kit. But wait. Who's that in the background out of focus? Is that <insert name of player> who was at <insert name of club> last year???
If stating actual facts is a sign of being out of touch then I plead guilty as charged. To answer another point, I have said before that our owners and management will have discussed the make up of this season’s squad many weeks ago. Doesn’t mean that everything has fallen perfectly into place of course, but surely people realise that this is an ongoing process so why the anxiety when we’re still in June?
We're one of only four clubs yet to make a signing - along with Reading and Wigan (both in a state financially), and Carlisle (the last club to be promoted from L2).
Its only because everyone is lacking any proper football news and have both the time and place to actually indulge in good-footballing supporter moaning about any lack of information (as opposed to moaning about information when we do get any).
Personally I am in favour of as soon as one season finishes, the back pages devote themselves to cricket and we should all forget about the football until the first pre-season friendly comes around and we turn up to see who has signed. I think I'm probably in a minority though in this news-hungry age.
(I am clearly also lying giving that I do come on here every day, but its really only for the badge competition/wordle/name the ground/Chas's easy quizzes. Honest!)
It's when someone recognises some really obscure player who has only played 3 games professionally, and been with some 9th tier outfit for 3months.... that's the time to realise you're a bit too invested.
It’s not panic. It’s mild concern for the club’s lack of activity in a situation where we have approximately ten first team players, many of which injury prone, one of which already wearing a protective boot. Our season expectations have not been publicised like previous seasons. We have a new manager who will not have the experience in the transfer market that Ainsworth has. You could argue that we look unstable to football agents at the moment. There’s a big question mark over what to expect from us. We’ve got a lot of time and there is no need to completely panic, but there’s definitely room for concern now that the players are back in for training.
No one wants just any old signing, but to have not done any business by this stage is at least a little concerning - especially as we've known for two months which division we'll be in next season.
They charge us over the odds for tickets, food and drink... they don't tell us about injuries, or contract lengths.. the least they could do is tell us if they have signed someone, maybe just treat us as fans
I am fairly confident that we will not have only 10 "first team" players come 3rd August.
I am not overly bothered how many we have in late June.
Equally I am not overly bothered whether the owner says we are "going for promotion". Never take such comments seriously anyway.
Clearly with Matt in his first full season in charge, it is impossible to know how we will fare this season. Pretty sure though that that will not be determined by whether Couhig opens his mouth or whether players are not signed until mid July.
We normally have a carousel of trailists in around this year, last year, we had 30 + all training at the ground as well as the main squad so I'm not worried at the moment. Lets just hope lessons have been learnt from our experiences last year with Bishop and we get things sorted quickly without any hang-ons
I'll say straight away that I'm not panicking, but... when we are behind similar clubs in terms of announcing new blood, it "might" suggest that we have failed with our No.1 targets - or at least, not succeeded yet (negotiations with agents, other clubs involved, player thinking it over, etc.)
It's also possible that in the past we've jumped the gun - Gaz was never much good at hiding his excitement when we were "close to signing" players, not all of whom actually got through the gate, for one reason or another - and therefore, we are maybe trying not to be in a position where we say "announcement pending, guys...." followed by silence.
Not sure if this is accurate as I don’t think Cheltenham, Fleetwood, Shrewsbury or Peterborough have announced any signings in addition to the four you have mentioned.

Isn't that pretty much the same every year at this time of the season?
Why the panic?

Today is a good day

Aren’t Reading and Wigan both under a transfer embargo?
So what?
So they are - good spot

It may not be true, but it certainly gives the impression other clubs are being a lot sharper with their activity?
Why?
We will no doubt sign some players before the end of the transfer window.
Getting the right players seems more important than necessarily signing any old player six weeks before the start of the season.
Why the panic?
No panic here, but I agree with @Malone

Well, the new lead physical performance coach is a unit! https://twitter.com/wwfcofficial/status/1673303067083546626?t=cAzNa86RsUBpK5cXjFqKjg&s=19
There’s a difference between making signings and announcing them.
I mean, yes, but clubs generally announce signings as soon as they make them...

Each to their own.

Exactly this.
We need 2 x left backs / LWB's - one I wanted Danny Andrew signed for Cambridge today
I was going to avoid the deja vu of Gasroom Summer but there is something compelling about it.
Please keep posting as your satirical comments always lighten the mood and make me smile.

Ah, I've been caught out by a couple of loan-to-perms / returning loaners https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/league-one/transfers/wettbewerb/GB3/plus/?saison_id=2023&s_w=&leihe=1&intern=0&intern=1
Fleetwood just announced Ryan Broom. A very good signing.
All the other teams have signed loads of skill players......
If we'd ended last season strongly and were still under Gareth, I dare say we'd all be a lot more relaxed.
As generally we knew Gareth would pull some superb signings out.
It's all totally up in the air this summer, but the big positive is that Wing aside we've kept all the key central guys,Max, Taf, Scowen and Vokes.
Those 4 stay fit and we'll still be a strong outfit.
