I know you crazy kids use his name as a catchphrase for some reason I think I must have missed months ago, but where do you think he'll be a regular in our line-up?
@Malone I don't think it's clinging (amateur or professional)...more hopeful that the business done will be a success. I would like a proven CB, CF and goalie...but I can live with it if no-one who fits the GA bill (or the wage bill!) comes in for the time being.
Much as (at the moment) we haven’t replaced Stockdale or Stewart with players of equal or better quality I am relatively relaxed that we will get somewhere close in the former’s case and someone with potential in the latter.
What we haven’t done (and never could) is replace Bayo. I think that he is a far greater loss than either Stocko or Tools and this, more than anything, makes me think that we will be weaker as a whole this season.
i trust GA and Dobson but I could see this being a season of transition but also one in which we start to expand how we play a lot more.
I started it about six months ago in the context of a reference to a spoof quiz in the Radio 4 programme “I’m sorry I haven’t a Clue” in which contestants take turns at naming London tube stations until someone calls out “Mornington Crescent” and, inexplicably, the “game” ends. All very weird and wonderful but that is just an occasional brief diversion and, overall, the programme, chaired by Jack Dee, is very clever and entertaining with plenty of smutty innuendo.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see Nick reprising his role as a right wingback although Jason McCarthy made that position his own for most of last season of course. Whether Nick will replace him whilst he is injured is quite possible, I think, but otherwise he’s perhaps more likely to be used as an occasional substitute in whatever position GA/Dobbo deem appropriate. Similar situation to the one that David Wheeler found himself in last season.
On reflection, I think Jason McCarthy played like a right wingback although nominally right back in a back four, such was his boundless energy (frequently commented upon by Nick himself when sharing commentary with @bluntphil.)
Freeman would be better than Jason going forward, needless to say. Not only was McCarthy's crossing radar off for most of the season, but he is extremely one-footed - if a player overlaps him and it would take a left footed pass to release the player, he never makes it, and those kind of situations would unfold very differently with Freeman, who is obviously much more two-footed.
That being said, I have no idea where Freeman is defensively in comparison to Jason after a season off.
I think Jason’s attacking skills probably outweigh his defensive qualities. He has consistently been more impressive rampaging forward than making last ditch defensive interventions. To be fair, some of his worst defensive performances were when he was asked to play left back. Not so often in the last two seasons but, going back a fair bit, he was pretty effective with medium/long range free kicks. As they say, always gives 100%, leaves nothing on the pitch. Get fit soon, Jase.
Some fans on here would never be happy whoever we signed, how well we played or with the manager whatever he did @trevor in fact during the season some fans on here only post on match day (with undisguised glee) when we concede. Takes all sorts.
Let’s all be Frank. I’ll volunteer to be Skinner because he makes me laugh.
At least we now know that @Wanderers82 and @trevor are not one and the same person, unless of course he has started talking to himself. Maybe that shouldn’t surprise us. When people ignore me that’s what I tend to do and I find we get on very well - just like @trevor and @Wanderers82 seem to.
@Wanderers82 & @trevor Please can you name the 3 signings to replace Stocko, Bayo & Stewart who are available today and would improve the squad in your eyes?
You seem happy to say we haven't done any good business but I can't recall seeing any solutions.
there were plenty of names such as blackman and mawson (don't think we need cover for Bayo) but GA/Rob scared of spending so will leave to last minute to save a fiver !
There are plenty of names like the ones other people have mentioned @mooneyman just accept that truth that the management are buying the wrong ones not the right ones.

No it isn't
See what you did there.
I'm not convinced that you do. And so on...
Did you pay for the full half hour?
When I realise what I’ve written is crap I then know it’s time to leave it and press ‘Post Comment’.

It seems strange that McCarthy's attacking wasn't top notch last season, as it was that side of his game that got him a move to the championship.
For sure - Jason was unplayable at times at the back end of the Championship season too. Last season felt like a strange regression.
Would either of you prefer to see Nick Freeman there then (assuming we play three/five at the back) ?
honestly another non league wasted transfer honestly seems like fans on here would be happy with anyone we sign .
Well, there’s no doubting your honesty, @trevor .
No. He can play there if we're stretched, but we need specialists really.
exactly , let's be Frank, our signings seems non league players and none of them have improved our team
Hi, I'm Frank. Pleased to meet you.

I thought it was well known that trevor is a 2nd account of a regular poster?
