I thought it was the pitch that would limit friendlies too. Agree with @eric_plant about a degree of deflation, but hopefully the impending start of the season will soon have us all buzzing...even those who haven't paid to hear the players say they are buzzing.
I feel pretty deflated myself. For me it is not just the Sunderland defeat being so meek, but losing L2 veterans such as Bayo, Blooms, Stewart and Kashket over the course of the same season. Climbing the mountain only to be pushed off by someone in a Sunderland top and losing friends along the way, so to speak.
That being said, it's easy to feel a little lost when no games are being played. I will be WELL up for (checks notes) Burton Albion.
I agree with you @Shev. When I was younger, I remember the club used to have a pre-season fan day where fan could meet new or current players, get their new shirts for that season & get them signed. I know COVID would make this frowned upon but could this be revisited in the future?
I have a load of photos of my daughter (then ten) with the players at the fan day before Peter Taylor's season in L1...when matty phillips was but a lad.
I do remember that the children used to have a fun day at a different venue (like Handy Cross or Bisham Abbey) where there were lots of different & fun activities with the kids divided up into small teams and first team players were the leaders.
I know that this would take lots of planning and would eat into the player's down time but I also think the club should revisit this idea. An excellent way to attract new & younger members of our fan base into the club

As per
Ok, so they meant one friendly.

So did I @drcongo althiugh I’ve forgotten what it was about.
"The process to grow the new playing surface will take seven weeks"
That'll explain the lack of home friendlies. They could have been clearer about that - I only found this as a mate told me about it.

There is the player sponsorship, though I tried the basic international one last season and only received two of the four things they promised.

Anyone else got Bracknell Town (a) in their calendar for tomorrow evening? Guessing it’s a development squad game?
It's listed on the website, zero mention of it otherwise.
Does everyone know what a the sole purpose of a "friendly" is?
With the answer in mind, I'd suggest it doesn't really matter who we play as long as we get what we need out of the game.
A full team of trialists by all account
Anthony, Angus, Albert, Alex, Aaron, Archie, Abraham, Alan, Aiden, Andrew and Nick Freeman wasn't it? Don't know about the subs.
Bracknell won 2-0. Ainsworth out.
Wake up and smell the coffee!!!!!!!
Nick Freeman
We are currently 3-0 up against Fulham under 23s.
Scowen,Vokes and Horgan with the goals.
New kit looks good in action too
Is there a stream?
Sorry? Horgan? Scored a goal?
hope you’ve not been on the sun too long @robin
Not out in the sun today mate i'm watching T20 Cricket England V India. I have to admit i was stunned when i saw he'd scored.
Make a formation from this..
Second Half XI: Dickinson (Trialist-GK 80), Gape, Tafazolli, Wheeler, Mehmeti, Horgan, Hanlan, Mellor, Obita, Al-Hamadi, Parsons
Seems like Forino and McCarthy were the only first teamers not involved.
First Half XI: Dickinson, Grimmer, Jacobson, Trialist-CB, Vokes, McCleary, Young, Kaikai, Freeman, Scowen, Pattenden.
Second Half XI: Dickinson (Trialist-GK 80), Gape, Tafazolli, Wheeler, Mehmeti, Horgan, Hanlan, Mellor, Obita, Al-Hamadi, Parsons.
No Wing, De Barr, Wakley or Leathers either.
Thompson as well! Not used to having such a large squad at this stage of pre season.
Not that I could see just going from the action photos on the club Twitter
Oh I’d forgotten about Wing.
So it seems did Orville
