Season ticket renewal

  • @Malone - thanks for your kind words. You are right about the need for me to make more effort on the exercise front. One of the nurses at Wycombe hospital warned me (in the nicest possible way!) that if I didn’t I would soon be walking with a frame. Glad to say it hasn’t reached that stage yet.

The treadmill/cycle option would be good but space doesn’t permit unfortunately. @SmiroludyBlue told me some time ago that her dad had a more compact device which enabled him to pedal whilst sitting in his armchair (or on an upright chair, can’t recall which). Again, I’ve shown a shameful lack of determination - a resignation, really, to the feeling that, in my mid eighties, there’s not much point. But there is. And I must do something about it.

End of confession. Perhaps making it so publicly will increase the incentive.

  • Don't beat yourself up about it Micra, I'm sure if we're honest most of us should be doing more. I certainly should.

Even just walking on the spot while you're watching TV, or maybe upstairs and back during the ad breaks? It all helps

  • As head chef and bottle washer I do spend a lot of time on my feet in the kitchen, Eric, and someone told me years ago that standing is in itself a form of exercise. I’m also up and down the stairs up to a dozen times a day but I have to come clean and confess that we only have five stairs (split level bungalow).

Mrs micra has reminded me that a friend of hers was advised to avoid the pedalling option as it’s not good for the knees. We’ve a large sloping garden, mainly laid to grass, so I plan to resume the walking circuits which I started doing a few months ago but very quickly got bored with. As Gareth might say, I must leave nothing in the garden.

  • @micra Gaz would also observe of your split level bungalow stairs “never too high, never too low”.

  • I thank heavens @perfidious_albion for the banister rail which ‘Jock’ Sheppard (Team Attendant/Groundsman/Magic Sponge) installed in 1983! We both haul ourselves up with the aid of that superbly solid handrail.

  • You could always do a "Captain Tom" @micra!

  • I find 100 press-ups, star jumps and stomach crunches followed by an hour on the teadmill works @micra Well, it would if I ever did any of it.

  • I spend less on my monthly season ticket subscription than my wife does on coffee and if that’s not grounds for celebration I don’t know what is

  • Forgive me, I have absolutely no idea where the Honours Lounge is.

Is it the one the Vice Presidents used to go in years back?

  • I'm assuming it's the one between Montys and the Caledonian ?

  • Which I assume is The Centre Spot and The Vere Suite

  • Here’s one for you all, and I’m not sure if it’s perhaps a bit controversial.

Does the club reserve the right / can they do this with advanced notice (or 12 months ready for next season) to move your season ticket seat a place to the left or right?

My conundrum is I have an adult and child ST in family stand, in a decent position I really don’t want to move from but no availability seat next to us. Yet on the map, there are clearly loads of odd seats in between people which a number of which are let’s say ‘tactical’, knowing it’s likely to be available if you wanted an extra ticket. Imagine how many more season tickets could actually be bought if there was som effort on relocating some people across by just 1 seat? I’m basically just going to get the 1 child’s ticket which has gone up in price as the kid is 12 now and my kids will have to alternate matches. The youngest now has enough interest to want to go regularly etc. Would love to go up to the top tier but the increase is just far too much with and adult and 2 kids.

  • @username123 Might not be a bad idea to book the nearest available seat and at the first game ask them kindly if they have any objection to moving across one seat (for the season or at least as long as your youngest remains keen). I’m pretty sure they will be happy to oblige.

(And if not being stuck between you and a suitably primed “youngster” will soon make them change their mind…)

  • As long as its not an end of row that someone has specially picked, probably no reason someone wouldn't bump up one.

In our row there's me and pal, but sometimes we bring a 3rd pal and the kind gent and son to our right have no problem moving up one.

It's interesting the general gist of what you say though.

I think I saw someone say Wembley ticketing didn't allow the leaving of a single ticket free, as they're much harder to sell.

Wonder if you could apply the same to a season ticket, as the club have always been big on allowing you to pick the exact seat.

  • Funny you should say that @mooneyman. My daughter came round today and, as she was leaving and chatting on the drive to mrs micra, I started jogging (sort of) round the front lawn. Grandson said “look at Captain Tom”. That led to a comment that Tom’s daughter had (allegedly, apparently) used some of the proceeds of Tom’s Herculean efforts to get a bungalow built in the grounds of his house. I’d not heard that story but then I don’t read newspapers.

  • Micra - I have been on a couple of Zoom calls through Rotary speaking to Captain Tom's daughter. There were all sorts of misinformed and clearly 'fake news' stories that circulated on the internet about their fundraising, which, to my mind, denigrated his efforts and those of his family.

Given the way many silly stories spread on the internet, I suggest we are all best to leave that one alone unless someone has first hand knowledge of the facts.

By the way, please keep up your posts Micra. Your wry comments often bring a bit of joy to my day (particularly when there is nothing football related happening).

  • That’s reassuring @Thicketblue. I thought it was pretty unlikely. And thank you for the kind words. I often feel a little guilty about my off the cuff (and sometimes unduly personal) meanderings but, as you suggest, there’s frustratingly little football content currently.

  • I've actually received my season ticket already! What am I going to complain about now? The new one doesn't appear to have a QR code on so I'm not sure how it's supposed to scan.

  • If it is like the season card I used last year they use magic for you to gain entry.

(Or a hidden chip in the card)

Wasn't there a guy who took the chip out of his Oyster card and stuck it to a wand, then went around dressed as a wizard zapping the ticket barriers?

  • There was indeed.

  • Well that made me larf!!!! 😂😂😂

  • There was a time, maybe six or seven years ago maybe a bit longer? when things were so lackadaisical at the club that (by mistake) I used the previous seasons turnstile season ticket card to gain entry for half a season. Only found the correct season ticket after Christmas 🙄

  • Got mine today as well ! Made me all all happy and ready to go..... bring it on !

  • The Charity Commission investigation is still ongoing according to an article I saw in The Times recently. At best I think she has been naïve in some of her attempts to commercialise her late father’s name if the reports are to be believed. Also proposed £150k salary and an HQ in his garden sailing close to the wind in my view.

One premier league club used to use viagogo, where season ticket holders could re-sell tickets for games they couldn't make, and the buyer got a nice paper ticket etc.

A ticketing expert pal of mine told me that they wouldn't have the tech to actually remove that ticket from the season ticket holder's card, so if they turned up they'd have still got in, as long as they were the first one to try (i.e. before the paper ticket buyer tried).

That seems bonkers to me, as does your scenario, but you never do know with these things!

The worst one I heard at our club was someone who had been allowed to have a Frank Adams season ticket at terrace ticket price (and for a younger age range than they should have as well), and were given all the games as paper tickets!

They then sold all the tickets off for profit!!

  • I heard he was actually doing lengths, not laps
