At the moment there is a plan to build a vast film studio on land between Little Marlow and A404 Marlow by-pass. Not sure there will be any space left for a training ground should the film studio plan get the go-ahead.

There's miles of fields aren't there?
The bigger question is how come all this presumably green belt land can suddenly be ravaged like this.

Come on Dev, explain to us all how this green belt land can be built on?

I think that’s where Marlow FC we’re looking to relocate to a few years back.
For those of us who don't know much about this, why did they need to move? They don't get much in the way of crowds do they?
Higher than Beaconsfield of course, of whom I saw a BFP story about how they "Only" get 100, despite £1m of ground work.
You'll know better than anyone, is that particularly low for their tier of football?
And presumably that £1m was over countless years, as why and how would that investment be granted for such a lowly club!?
I suppose the obvious question is how we pay for this without the ability to make money from selling the existing training ground.
Also interesting to know whether we're pushing for this move, or whether the current owners of the training ground are pushing us out so they can sell the land for another purpose (housing).

There's no such thing as protected land under a tory council.

You have to assume that we did bank some sort of decent level of money from the championship season, so are using some of that up.
If we are being pushed out (and I'd imagine it's more your other option you mention), it would look pretty poor for those owners to then sell it on at a vast profit.
It'd go from gasroom conspiracy stuff to reality, and anyone involved would surely find it difficult to stay involved with the club.
It is pretty obvious why Marlow FC wanted to move. Their site would not be protected against housing and would fetch a considerable sum. When they intended to move the application was turned down but now a large film studio is talked about. Those who objected to the football club may now be thinking that it would have been much more acceptable

Surely you mean patriotic wealth creators often make pragmatic decisions when they feel the positives for the community outweigh the hysterical opposition of a few nimbys?

We're not Marlow bankrolled by property developers during there successful years in the 90's under Mike Keen and then Dave Russell ?
They sold land around the Alfred Davies memorial ground, and were the one's behind there move to Little Marlow.
There was a rumour that Flackwell were looking to move from Wilks Park recently, and potentially relocating to little Marlow.
I walked from Bourne End to Marlow during Covid and there is literally land galore from the main road down to the river. The Athletics track is already there, but what is the 'Country Park' that is planned with the sports hub ?
Wonder if there is enough land to potentially build a new stadium in the future on the same complex. Seems to be the blueprint of a few teams these days.
Love the xenophobic dog-whistling on that site - "Offshore company, Dido Properties Ltd., is planning to build [...]" "The American owner of Wycombe Wanderers is planning to build [...]"

Isn't there a slight issue though that we wouldn't actually be playing in Wycombe anymore?
Sadly for the NIMBYs the training facility is the most likely of those proposals to get approval. It is broadly an extension of the existing sports facilities in that locale and the club are offering to refurbish those facilities as part of the build...
Agreed - other than 1 artificial pitch and a couple of buildings/car park it will presumably at least stay mostly as grass. The film studio on the other hand is a mass sprawl of buildings over 5 different field. Traffic wise the training ground will have a much small impact too I would suspect.
If the training ground proposal is presented in a way that demonstrates some value to the community it has a chance of succeeding as a "least bad" option.
The film studio proposal is horrible and there is tremendous local opposition to it.
Going to be a fair bit of local opposition to this
Not surprised. It was a strange decision to bung the running track where they did, but that was all dressed up with the need to redevelop the sports centre and bung a shop or 2 there.
But a massive sports development next to it and that whole film site? Just seems quackers.

Is a killing on the cards from the sale of the present refurbished training ground?
For the owners yes. We're not the owners.
But you do wonder about how much expense has gone into it from us, if we're then hot footing off?
Beeks and co own it though don’t they?

Couldn't we just use Pride Park for training?

Don’t forget the extra rates income that comes with new housing…all councils appreciate that extra income.

You mean in the same way a PM who misinformed parliament and broke lockdown guidelines would find it difficult to stay as PM?

That's politics. As it was, is and ever more shalt be.
The original gasman said there was a 10 year lease agreed on the current training ground and this new one is very much in the background.
That's makes much more sense as I'm sure we've made a lot of costly improvements there.
Could anyone remind me why we need a new training ground?
Probably because Rob would like to own a training ground rather than lease it from a money grabbing property developer.
