I don't like this new popover ad that you get _every single time_ you visit the website now that stops you from scrolling or doing any of the things you came to the site to do.
It's setting a cookie to know whether it has already shown you the ad. The expiry of that cookie is a few weeks in the future, but every time they change the ad, the ID changes and the cookie is reset. Next time they change it, or when the cookie expires, you'll see it. If you're on the website a lot it's probably not that much of a bother, but if you go on once or twice a week to watch a match it's a pain in the arse. And if you're like me, and don't allow such cookies to be set, it's infuriatingly persistent.
And now that I've gone digging into that, I've found it trying to set some dodgy tracking cookies when logging in and switching to the myquarter.wwfc.com sub domain, despite me having rejected cookies.
While we're on about the website / app, I've never experienced an app so keen to log you out. I seem to be continuously having to log back in. Plus the full screen for video playback on Safari remains frustratingly unfixed.
That said, still miles better than that old EFL template rubbish we had a while back. And much better content too.
But if you look at the screen grab up there, you'll see that the thing it is obscuring is also a massive call to action for the next match. Why do I need two of them? Why do WWFC want to cover up their hero story with an advert for their hero story? Who is this there for?
Oh god, I’m having flash backs to an online discussion I had with someone who voted for Brexit purely and solely because of the cookie popups. He was convinced they were something the EU forced on us and they would disappear once we left….

I came here to read the big match preview about Wycombe vs Shrewsbury, but I can't, because of an ad for Wycombe vs Shrewsbury.
Reminds me of when Amazon Prime Video used to show you ads for Amazon Prime Video while you were watching Amazon Prime Video.
I am the very opposite of an expert on these matters but when I clicked on the preview just now it went straight to the story without any ad.

I appreciate your detailed reply even though most of it flew over my head like some of our passes from the back recently!

Put that cookie down....now!

Surely all you have to do is click the X in top right corner and it goes away?
Why should I have to though?
To get past the advert
I agree with @drcongo, it is annoying, it's not an advert you can just ignore. Why should I have to click on it before I go to where I want to go?
It's advertising the next match for the casual viewer...I just click on the X...it takes nanoseconds. Or is that just on a laptop?

Rob C will be answering questions at the Trust table tomorrow @drcongo (☺️)

That's a kind of stupid I didn't know existed
I liked the ones I heard on Radio Four who when asked said : No I didn't vote this time, I'll do it next year
Almost on a par with my idiot colleagues who voted for Brexit in the naive belief that it would never succeed but the government needed a scare
My mum voted for Brexit because she found David Cameron ‘smarmy’. Can’t fault her observation, but not sure the outcome hurt him that much.
How dare you patronise them suggesting they didn’t know what they were voting for you bitter remoaner! You lost , GET OVER IT!
;)
Our old (and in age) neighbour voted Brexit to 'shake things up a bit.'
Sadly, she died without seeing just how shook up things got and before Johnson got it done.
Probably because of the medical supply chain problems brexit caused.
Some good contenders for ‘didn’t happen of the year,’ on this thread.
Surely "we got Brexit done" and "Oven ready deal" in close succession won that in a keep the trophy kind of way.
I'll give you one of those.
Well for balance I know someone who voted not to leave the EU as she thought she wouldn’t be able to go on holiday in Europe again!
