5000 visits in 8 hours and 50 comments overwhelmingly expressing people’s love and admiration for Fred is a true indication of the esteem in which he was held at Adams Park.
We may never know the full details of the circumstances surrounding his unexpected departure and it will take us fans some time to come to terms with it but life goes on, as they say, and let’s hope he’ll have a happier time at Luton than he did at Millwall.
Good luck to Fred - I don’t think I want to see his mic drop moment for a while though. I suspect the terse club statement is due to him wanting to leave last time they tried to buy him and the fact that despite the Couhig’s ‘bigged him up’ frequently in conversation they couldn’t persuade him to stay.
He had a strange season did Fred. Was really off his game in the 1st half of the season and was struggling to make the starting XI. 2nd half of the season he just got better and better (as did the whole team to be fair). Sad to see him go, but I wish him all the best at Luton.
I think this is exactly right. First half or two thirds of the season Fred was his usual ‘in and out’ self and not a first choice winger/striker. At that stage if he had gone I would not have said we lost much. And then, when we went three at the back and needed a left wing back, he had a really good run there. But I always felt that the Centre mids also had to offer extra cover that side as the JJ/Fred combination looked a bit weak on the defensive side of the game. I’m sure Gaz would have liked to keep him but will find equally talented cover there.

Agreed.
Good lad, had some great moments for us. But I'm slightly cautious at being too down..if it was Uche it'd be a huge blow to the way we're intending to play.
Fred sort of found a temporary left wing back slot, but surely Obita will be the specialist there.
He had a funny in and out season in other attacking positions.
What is certain though is we need a couple of attacking signings. Hopefully Gaz is well down the line on those.

What a scumbag. Like Luke O'Nien, he will regret it for the rest of his life poor lad.
If this isn't a parody, and it can be difficult to tell, I'd caution slagging him off too much until we know facts but I'm struck not only by the short statement but also the absence of well wishes from some players who are normally very vocal on social media.
The O'Nein thing sounds nice but he's having a great time up there , is on good £, well liked by all but the rabid elements and we'd take him back in a heartbeat along with several other clubs.

I guess we will have to wait to 31st of August to see whether this was a good piece of business or not. Everything else is just speculation
Exactly as you say. Looks like it’s going to be a long summer in Gasroomland!

Is that the day we'll find out how much we got for him?
I share your dislike of fees not being published but I’m afraid it has become common practice. It is exactly why you get the wild speculation about Fred’s fee that has ranged from £50k to £2.5m.
That's after their star player declined to sign a new contract and left for free and they've still managed to put together a decent article with quotes from player and manager, similar to we had for the O'Nien sale in 2018.
I remember thinking last year when Jombati left that it was pretty abrupt and blunt compared to previous years so this must be how the now regime deal with departures.
Sam Wood and Garry Thompson both had specially produced videos dedicated to them showcasing their highlights when they were released. Shame we couldn't do one for Fred or even Allsop or Charles after their contributions.

It is quite an unWycombe way of announcing an iconic player departing, maybe it was quite sudden? Media staff away? Who knows!
My sense the club may not be totally overjoyed that he is leaving bearing in mind all we have done for him and our clear aspirations to go back up again. Hence the rather dismissive one liner. Who knows he may struggle as he did at Millwall without Ainsworth and Dobbo in his corner.
The short club statement could easily be explained by the fact that our (excellent and hard working) media team are enjoying some down time. We’ll see what the next few days bring.
Far more telling is the lack of reaction on social media from our players. Can’t prove anything from silence of course, but it is interesting.

Jack Grimmer the only one to react, but do players normally react to sales on SM?
I wonder if it is also a shift it mentality demanded by the new owner? I.e we’re not going to lament over days gone by, players that no longer play for us etc. You could argue it is a bit small club to fawn over and eulogise the talents of someone that now plays elsewhere. And that we instead ought to focus our energy on talking up the players we do have.
Bit of a stretch I admit, and the simpler explanations that the club are pissed off and/or the media team are on holiday probably makes more sense.

Nah, I think you're probably spot on. That makes a lot of sense.
Exactly it doesn't take much to just note down some basic appearance and goal stats. Maybe a mention of winning the penalty at Wembley and some other contributions and that would be it.
One line quote from Ainsworth or Couhig wishing him well and that's all it needs really. Would stop unhelpful speculation about Fred forcing a move which doesn't really seem part of his character.

Was going to say this.
Usually when our updates are very skimpy it is a simple case of staff being away.

I think this is the explanation. If it is I’m not a fan of this new approach.
People not getting a game. People not on the bench. No details about injuries. Fees. Departures. Transfer silence until July. Ignoring Dave Tarpey. If there is one thing we have all learnt on the Gasroom it is that there is never an innocent explanation for anything...

As long as he goes down at the slightest touch and does not take the knee he'll be reet!

Compare the AFC Wimbledon post announcing Pigott is leaving to our shameful one line statement announcing Fred's departure.

We’ll know for sure when Bayo decides not to renew his contract…
Haha, I think one of the biggest legends in Wycombe history is a slightly different case!
Are you telling me that no-one at the club can spare half an hour to write some nice things about Fred and wish him well?
Seems a bit far-fetched to me.

Maybe we should retire his shirt, like Birmingham did for Jude Bellingham.
Was going to say this.

Has Fred actually posted any message to our fans?
I think this is the explanation. If it is I’m not a fan of this new approach.
Fred will be back playing at Adams Park soon enough....when we inevitably draw Luton in the 3rd round of the FA Cup.
If people are that bothered, raise it with Rob. You'll get a response at least.
People not getting a game. People not on the bench. No details about injuries. Fees. Departures. Transfer silence until July. Ignoring Dave Tarpey. If there is one thing we have all learnt on the Gasroom it is that there is never an innocent explanation for anything...
Plus they will probably increase the price of crisps next season @Wendoverman!
Until they start searching us for contraband I shall carry on delivering my own match day experience to my seat.
