  • Just got to hotel in Istanbul as the league 2 scores were scrolling on the TV, gutted to see we lost our undefeated record. I knew I should have thrown a sickie and caught the early flight tomorrow morning instead. Did we play ok or was is a white wash? Bbc stats gave us the lion's share of possession.

  • Argyle had basically done their homework, knew we can't score much at the mo, so let us huff and puff then hit us on the counter for the first goal, and second was a poorly defended corner.

Oddly enough we were stroking it about quite nicely until their first.

But then all they did was stuck everyone behind the ball, Holloway was working his nads off but with precious little support and tons of Argyle back to block everything.

We tried hoofing it - they'd mop it up, we tried playing it on the deck but weren't good enough at doing that to break through. Not great, but we move on.

  • So basically if the possession stats favour us, it's cos they let us have the ball a lot of the time rather than a reflection of the quality of our silky ball play.

  • Thought plymouth did a good tactical job on us, simple as that.

    We cant do tuesday night's.

a hand to the plymouth fans, good numbers and noise

  • It says on Twitter that we haven't won at home midweek for three years! Is this true?

  • Fair play to Plymouth, they were the better team on the night. It was a more open game than I was expecting, we could have scored 2 or 3, but they could easily have had 4 or 5. A rare off night for our back 5, with the clear exception of Mawson, who was once again quite brilliant. Pierre struggled, especially in the 1st half, Sido had something of a shocker, JJ was well below his usual standard and even Ingram looked a little shaky at times. On the positives, I actually thought we looked ok in central midfield, it was the long balls over the top we struggled to deal with. Bean had a decent game and Bloomfield was excellent, despite being targeted by Plymouth players who clattered him on numerous occasions.

The 1st goal was always going to be crucial and unfortunately we gifted them the opportunity by a dreadful short corner which we made a total hash of. After that it was always going to be a struggle against a solid defence.

Oh well, looking forward to Saturday and hopefully getting back to winning ways against Newport.

  • Certainly feels true this season Gordon, but sounds unlikely to me.

I'm sure other teams will once again claim the wheels are falling off the Wycombe machine after today's loss, but we will smash Newport by a few goals to nil and everything will look better again.

Nobody is going to run away with this league - people are dropping points left, right and centre.

  • As good a shot stopper Ingram is, he shows no improvement on dealing with crosses.
He will never make a top keeper until he can dominate his 6 yard box. He is continually
    all at sea from crosses.

  • Thought Lewis Alessandra was impressive tonight, real composure with the ball.

  • Can we just ban short corners? They are absolute gash.

The whole point of a corner is that you get an uncontested set piece into the opposition's box. As soon as you play it short, they can close you down and tackle you.

  • We were rubbish. Been expecting that we will get found out - no midfield and we just hoof it up to a non existent forward line. Normally we can rely on the back 4 but they were miles away. No one on the bench to come in a change things. Gareth didn't seem to have a clue - doesn't look good for the rest of the season. God we miss Paris. We have to get at least 3 in on loan.

He and Ruben Reid make a very good partnership for plymouth

Agree, the two best keepers were on show tonight (maybe a trio with southends bentley) but the infamous luke mccormack showed why he pips the rest, composed with crosses, just a fine goalkeeper in general.

Ingram needs to add that to his game.

Yes outplayed tonight but far from a shower of shite. Bean and Bloomers did well in the middle and Mawson once again excelled. The full backs looked dodgy tonight as they were far too advanced. Gaz went a bit gung-ho tactically which backfired with the pace and trickery of Allesandra who was a real handful. We didn't get any lucky breaks and although Hogan was tidy and Aaron worked hard we didn't really look menacing going forward. The halfwits booing when Gaz took Holloway off really need shooting - he was spent and looked like he wouldn't have scored JD the game gone on until midnight. Desperately missing Hayes at the moment - he would have buried the Sam Wood header in the first half.

  • Tonight's performance wasn't too much of a surprise considering the bare minimum squad we have, we were unable to match Plymouth all over the park who controlled the game convincingly in the end.
We've put in poor performances before this season before coming back with a vengeance soon after, so no need to panic just yet, especially if Hayes's return isn't too far away.

Yeah, I think I agree with all that. Gaz hasn't got much wrong this season, but our tactics did seem to play into Plymouth's hands today. That said, when 3 of your back 4 are off their game, then it's always going to be a struggle.

  • @Gordon_Ottershaw yes it ture sadly

    "Hayes return" ????
The not so savoury one was at Adams Park tonight !!

I didn't boo when Holloway came off but it did annoy me. He was having a great game and played a lot better than Ephraim. Ephraim gave a worrying performance tonight. waving his arms about when we gave the ball away as if he thinks he's too good for this. I thought we were tactically out-thought tonight but also that there were some good performances. The gap between the good performances (Bloomfield, Mawson) and the bad ones (Jombati, Ephraim) was pretty blatant. I have a lot more patience with Jombati because of his fantastic previous performances but it worries me to see Ephraim play and act the way he did tonight. Reminded me of Dean Morgan.

Might be wrong but the last League fixture won at home was the 4-2 win over Leyton Orient, 6th March 2012

I didn't mean that to be ambiguous! If my sources are correct, the spectres of boardrooms past that will be haunting us shortly are a bit older.

Are you suggesting that a certain Steve Hayes is to make some sort of return

He's a busted flush, I can't see him getting back in charge of the club. You'll have to look further back...

  • What exactly do you mean?

  • Poor tonight only Mawson had a good game in my opinion. need someone to start scoring for us

  • For me our midfield is obviously very much weaker. We are really missing Josh and Paris and an in-form Peter Murphy. Add to that the fact that we are missing Hayes up front and it is clear we are now a very different outfit. There is not much we can do about the need to sell our best players to enable consolidation but it really would be a shame if we do not use the loan market to strengthen our small squad.
I am not knocking GA or his staff as they have done a great job but just pointing out the obvious really.
