Wetherspoons in Bideford from memory could easily. A huge place, (maybe ex cinema), not much else to do down there on a Saturday night 7 remember the place packed full of yoof getting plastered. I didn't stay long.
Sensible. But you probably wouldn’t be the oldest person there if you did... (it is genuinely a surreal experience for those of us brought up in the relative sanity of the Home Counties).
Had an interesting chat this evening with a very senior scientist working on the govt's new big idea, mass testing. The aim is to develop a pregnancy-style saliva test which can be produced and distributed in the many millions each week. We will all have a batch of these at home and test ourselves every few days. If we're negative we'll get a certificate on an app or something which will last 48 hours (these details yet to be worked out).
The beauty of this is that it will allow football grounds, theatres, nightclubs etc to fully reopen to capacity - we'll just need to show our certificate to gain entry. We'll all be allowed to sing, no face masks necessary, it'll all be like olden times as we will be confident that no one around us has the virus, or at least it's weak enough in them not to be passed on.
This scientist thinks we should be in a position to get these tests up and running, at scale, by the end of the year. Which means it could be a bit longer before many, potentially any, of us get back to Adams Park - but at least its positive news about how it'll be when we do get back there.
This hasn't been attempted anywhere else in the world but this scientist is pretty confident it can be pulled off. He's one of the people I've been speaking to over the last six months who's got most things right, and is no govt defender. Thought I'd pass on, could be something to watch out for as plans develop...
I though that I heard yesterday they were expanding massage very the ONS testing throughout the country. I've been getting tested most weeks by the ONS, they rock up most Saturday mornings, one time at the ridiculously early time of 9.30am! (I mean this is lock down so mornings have got dramatically shorter). Maybe it was using this new test or something. anything that gets us back to AP, the veteran and an ability to shout at encouragement for the rampaging blues or something witty but cutting at the ref etc.........oh happy days.
Lost it as soon as @aloysius mentioned the 'Governments next big idea'. All the previous ones have gone so well. Wonder which minister gets the back hander this time.

I've never come across anyone less comfortable with other knowing more than them.
Non league clubs below national league south level (I believe) are now allowed to admit supporters, with some procedures. 15% of ground capacity for the first game, 30% for the second and onwards. At least one Western league club is checking whether the government is proposing to supply the fans to make up this capacity - they have never had that many before....
First FA cup game is on Tuesday Sept 1. Risbourough Rangers and Holmer Green at least are at home in your area. If you feel starved of live footie - I'd recommend getting yourselves down to a game.
Great post @DevC. I rarely laugh out loud but your first paragraph certainly induced a chortle. But your spelling of Risborough suggests that you have been out of the area for quite some time!
Autocorrect too.
I have a complaint @drcongo about the thumbing system. On the tiny screen on my phone, hitting thumbs up is a very hit or miss affair. When I unintentionally hit ‘down’ (as happened with your post of 10.58) the system will allow me to correct it but merely restores the status quo and will not allow me to add the intended thumbs up. Goodness knows how many thumbs up I’ve been losing as a result! Also, as I’ve said boringly on too many occasions, it would be very interesting to see who’s tapped what, as on Facebook.
Charlton looking to stage a pilot game with home fans only. Seems a bit unfair on their opponents (Doncaster) while games will still be behind closed doors. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/amp/football/53861145
Worth noting that Germany, which obviously has led the way in bringing football back and in keeping infection levels low, announced yesterday that crowds would not be able to return in October after all. People won't be able to watch from stadia until 2021 now, with infection rates on the rise again and reopening schools being the priority.
Let's hope the iFollow service can cope with all the streaming levels it will soon have to because where Germany leads, I reckon we will eventually follow.

Try the Wetherspoons in Ramsgate. Pre lockdown could cater for up to 1.400.
Not recently, no!
That in response to @bookertease of course. Must be hell on earth @mooneyman .

Very interesting and hopeful, @aloysius, cheers!!!
Sounded very interesting until the suggestion of no fans until the end of the year.
Can't see that. There will be some allowed in reasonably soon.

Autocorrect gone wild on that one....you guys are clever, you can figure it out.

I’m clever @aloysius (hmmmm) but not that clever. It was the veteran that got me - as I suppose it should.
Sounds interesting but extremely costly. It all does.
I've never come across anyone less comfortable with other knowing more than them.
It's fascinating, and a bit sad
I'm sure it will be expertly handled as always and a great success.
No wonder I got the thumbs down. I must apologise to @aloysius for addressing to him a post intended for @Ozzie_the_Relaxed.
For Veteren read Vere @micra
And for "expanding massage" read "expanding massively" ......although I could do with an expanding massage right now....probably.
Autocorrect reveals a lot about a person.
Just to follow up the above.

You're really angling for record levels of minuses with that one son
Ansobloodylutely!
It’s me versus @ValleyWanderer.
Thumbs down is ok on my laptop screen @micra!?

If they're allowed a pilot i expect all clubs will try for one
[insert joke about every Wycombe match being a pilot match because the ball's always airborne]
Bit odd picking Charlton in their current situation

I'd be more worried if we'd followed other countries in other aspects of our COVID response.
