Am I alone in being totally pee'd off with this futile on-going speculation and negativity about the goalkeeping situation. It is out of our hands and, frustrating as it is not knowing if Matt Ingram will be fit to play on Thursday, there is nothing we can do but wait - with everything crossed. On a flippant note, the answer for next season might be to appoint an even younger goalkeeping coach than Barry Richardson!

What Lynch needed early on the other night was a save to make early on to help his confidence. The defence protecting him so much as well probably didn't help it either. To me he looked more and more nervous and shaky as the game went on. He didn't inspire me with confidence and it was no real surprise when we leaked two goals late on. The goalkeeping situation is the absolute key to getting to Wembley IMHO.
I dont think leaked two goals is right first one was a worldie not sure how many keepers would have got that tbf second should of been a simple header away but ye was soft goal an you could see defence getting deeper an deeper thru tiredness after giving it all, i agree ingram has the class an experience but alex was bound to be a bit shaky its his first game!!!!
First goal was a blinder and agree second one Alfie stepped aside. Having said that I watched it from the Vere suite so perhaps others know better. What a game to make your first professional start? I think he did okay but he is a rookie. What worries me is that Plymouth will bombard him on Thursday if Ingram is not fit.
@Wig_and_Pen - yes, I was going to add that. I must say DB looks an extremely young 56. But there ia a serious point behind my comment - ie how to we avoid the present situation in future. No goalkeeper with a bit of FL experience is going to want to spend weeks/months on the bench. In a sense it is a mistake to carry two "rookie" 'keepers on the books because you are highly unlikely to be in a situation where the rules would allow you to bring in an experienced 'keeper on an emergency loan. But, going back to my original jest, I would hate to see a break-up of the successful trio masterminding our present success. They have been truly magnificent.
Cant address every problem. Plan for season was to have Ingram in goal and bring in a loan keeper if injured. This would have worked for the vast majority of the season, apart from small period at end of season when loan window is shut. Unfortunately that is when Ingram got injured. Bad luck but thats life.
Alfie's positioning was pretty awful. Lynch was unsighted and looking at the highlights it's really not clear what Alfie thinks he's doing. By his standards this season you would expect him to do better. But it's hard to blame him or indeed anyone else really. Any one of Bean, Alfie or Lynch might have stopped it and no-one did. That's life.
Does anyone really think the score would have been any different if Ingram had been in goal. He wouldn't have got to their first, and I'm not sure he'd have done any better with their second.
It's possible Alfie wouldn't have felt the need to be so protective of Ingram and so wouldn't have been in the ambiguous position he was. I think that if Lynch had gone for it he'd have saved it. IMHO it's a classic case of two key players not used to playing with each other. No blame to either.

Agree with @micra and @stella68 At the end of the day, rookie goalkeeper or not, we still won the match and can do the same at Adams Park.
@micra - "the answer for next season might be to appoint an even younger goalkeeping coach than Barry Richardson!"
Richardson's a spring chicken compared to Dave Beasant who was apparently on the bench last night for Stevenage at the age of 56...
Or indeed Nick Pope, who supposedly cancelled his holiday so he could come and play for us...?
I bet Nick Pope is pretty angry right now.

We can employ them as 'ticket office staff', and only offer pro contracts if they're needed to play a game.
Or bar staff, remembering the 6'9" barman now playing FILL IN NAME OF CLUB !!
He's just been released by York. If only he had had the talent of his namesake.

We didn't concede two goals because of Lynch. The first even Ingram wouldn't have stopped and the second was 90% Mawsons fault.

Not once did i see Lynch calling out to his defenders all game is he just not confident enough?
Or if Ingram had have been fit we may not have been as positive as we were and invited Plymouth onto us and been happy with 0-0.
We are where we are and will be on Thursday. Let's go for the ride and enjoy being on the roller-coaster
