15:00 Monday afternoon and 23 predictions to date for this one.
We say:
Average for Total Crowd: 5119
Average for Away Crowd 1839
Looks likely from our twitter that the away crowd will be larger than that. So far as we are concerned - we have the squad to deal with a serious attempt to reach the later rounds of this competition this year - extra games will be useful to us rather than not. I suspect that some of the interest from 'our local rivals' is that they have been staved of wins recently - hopefully their hunger will continue. From our point of view it could be a close and competitive game.
5000+ does seem to be a realistic possibility - anyone know what is our record home 1st round league cup attendance? I checked and we had 9771 for the 1 - 1 draw in the 1st leg of the semi-final against Mourinho's Chelsea in Jan 2007, so I guess that is our all time record for a home League Cup game

Just a comment guys. Last year at the same stage total attendance was below 2000 all-in (albeit for a relatively unglamorous tie). the year before 3.5k against relatively glamorous Fulham, the year before 1800 for championship Bristol City (the dying partridge game). I'm surprised that 2000 supporters from away club Reading can be bothered. Seems they can though. Which is the point of a crowd guessing game I suppose.
Can't say I'm particularly surprised. Their average home crowd is around three times ours, and we took 658 to Watford for the first round a few years back, so you can do the maths. More recently, Fulham also brought 1,500 here at the same stage.
@twizz was the champion forecaster for the exciting Reading game, missing by just 2 with a prediction of 4800. Hats off, closest prediction so far this season.
A good fair few were close and all the following deserve honourable mentions (no Amercian spellings yet) - all within 100 of the correct attendance. This bodes well for the season long competition.
@NewburyWanderer out by only 20 with 4782 @YorkExile out by only 22 with 4780 @DevC out by only 26 with 4828 @Pogo out by only 39 with 4841 @Aok84 out by only 46 with 4756 @DJWYC out by only 74 with 4876 @Manboobs out by only 77 with 4879
@Manboobs gets a double honourable mention for also being the closest to the sometimes silent away crowd with a shout of 1986.

Thank you @Steve_Peart - impressive - it does look possible we could defeat our 1st round League Cup attendance record, or at very least run it close.

4800 including 1900 Reading
4987, with 1762 away.
5123 with 1972 Biscuit ? people
5500 with 1950 reading please.
We have sold out the 2000 and apparently now being purchased in the home ends.
No real rivalry between the teams so shouldn't be any bother.
I could see there being more away fans than home tonight which would be strange
Embarrassing if it happens.
Those of us old enough to remember Reading visiting in the FA Cup 2nd round December 1976 will recollect plenty of bovver at that game...
Those old enough to know what ‘bovver’ means would be old enough to remember that game
