Perfectly explained by Mr Cowley here.

If you’re pressed for time fast forward to 3:17.

  • Very interesting! Quite persuasive on the fast forward philosophy.

  • Just to add to that, I had a conversation once with a former Lincoln manager, the late Keith Alexander. He was firmly of the opinion that trying to play intricate possession football in the lower divisions was a dangerous game because the players don’t have the same level of skills that you find higher up the ladder.

  • Cowley is always very impressive when he speaks. So much more to admire in him than the likes of Adams, Nolan, Jones, etc etc.

I think this is fundamentally the main reason why its so risky. Appleton tried it in his first season at Oxford and nearly got the team relegated. It took him 3 years to get the right type of players in to really play the way he wanted and we all remember how that ended. Disgusting scenes.

  • @OxfordBlue We'll put that right this season.

Fascinating interview with Cowley, what an impressive talker. Thanks, @Bacon_Sandwich .

  • And having fans who want you to play it to feet/out from the back until you do and then what are you doing get it ooooooout!!!
    also plays a part...
