Just to add to that, I had a conversation once with a former Lincoln manager, the late Keith Alexander. He was firmly of the opinion that trying to play intricate possession football in the lower divisions was a dangerous game because the players don’t have the same level of skills that you find higher up the ladder.

I think this is fundamentally the main reason why its so risky. Appleton tried it in his first season at Oxford and nearly got the team relegated. It took him 3 years to get the right type of players in to really play the way he wanted and we all remember how that ended. Disgusting scenes.

If you’re pressed for time fast forward to 3:17.
Very interesting! Quite persuasive on the fast forward philosophy.

Cowley is always very impressive when he speaks. So much more to admire in him than the likes of Adams, Nolan, Jones, etc etc.

@OxfordBlue We'll put that right this season.
Very surprised not to have seen Earl Grey at sweeper in that Bournemouth team
Fascinating interview with Cowley, what an impressive talker. Thanks, @Bacon_Sandwich .
