Lovely afternoon for Wycombe.

  • The Taylor promotion day was probably my most angry as a Wycombe fan.

Not sure the Torquay day was enjoyable but I see what you are saying. It was memorable day for those who went.

  • One of my best WWFC memories, especially singing "let's all wave at Bristol" on the way home!

One of the best away trips ever in my opinion...the build up, the singing behind the goal, that roar and the celebrations afterwards.

You got to see the Sanchez great escape a year and a bit later then?

Magical times. Not all about Wembley glory you know. An escape from relegation can be just as special. Some lifelong memories made towards the end of that season

yes funny enough i only have had one season ticket that was the 2000/2001 season remember the wolves game well when parkin got the late header was great atmosthere .

  • certainly was Trev old son. 3 sides of the ground going absolutely batshit mental

  • @Onlooker - To be honest the build-up and pretty much the entire match was almost unbearable - a sense of hopelessness mixed with that horrible, stupid hope we all harbour as fans, then the awful, awful tension until the Rovers score came through - then that one wonderful, unforgettable moment when it all came true and everyone went mental. There's a great Youtube video taken by a Torquay fan that has the roar in it. Up there in my top 3 Wycombe moments, which makes me forget just how grim most of the week building up to it was, including the day itself.

  • I never saw the torquay game as grim. It could have been, agreed, but never was. Few expected survival in the league, possibly survival at all, but what I saw was pride and dignity before the game, unity amongst the 1000 supporters, surprising amount of hope at kick off, elation as we scored and first Northampton and then Bristol fell behind, glorious suspense as the moments ticked by, wonderful release when the bristol score was confirmed, humour and unity again when Matt Bloomfield couldn't stop himself skipping for joy and punching the air chasing a long ball into our corner and then a good natured celebration that seemed never to end. Best WWFC day ever for me. I don't expect it ever to be beaten. Still occasionally watch the youtube videos.

  • If you'd been at the Rovers game the week before you'd know just how grim things felt.

  • 1000 people around me, Mindless, pre and during match. I didn't see them feeling grim, even before the game, complete and surprising opposite actually. I found it rather uplifting.

I did not go to Torquay but the Rovers game was indeed grim and we had no right to expect anything from that last game. Listening to it on the radio was the happiest I have ever been with Three Counties playing.

  • Not sure you ever actually read people's posts before you comment sometimes Dev - I said the week building up to the game was grim. Leaving AP after the loss to Brizzle was as grim as it's ever felt and the days after felt little better.

  • "including the day itself"?

  • Maybe the novelty of being at a Wycombe game raised your spirits.

  • shameless and painfully transparent diversion technique there Mr Hoover.

There have been many a game over the years that did anything but raise the spirits.

    Let's leave it there.

The walk away from the ground after the Rovers defeat was about as low as you can feel as a football fan.
It was a case of starting to get used to the seemingly inevitability of the terrible teams and grounds we'd be playing the next year, all the undoing of the historic O Neill work, and the much greater threat of going bust.

By the time of the game though, we had nothing to lose, and if nothing else, wanted to be there for the last football league game. And there was just that inkling of "what if".
