Sam Saunders signs!

  • @StrongestTeam I think Hayes still has something to offer, but in a totally different role. Playing alongside pace and power, he can be useful moving into holes between the oppposition defence and midfield.

But he is no substitute for Bayo's presence as a target man. And I think we need someone physical up front to give them team an anchor up front.

  • @Wig_and_Pen Exactly - this signing opens up so many more possibilities than the route one football we've been slightly constrained by in recent weeks (particularly against Yeovil). Saunders is exactly the sort of player that Southwell will thrive with and allow us to give Akinfenwa more of a rest. With O'Nien and Gape behind him we will surely see the ball played through the midfield far more now. All in all, an amazing signing. Surely, surely, we've got to be in with a chance of automatic promotion with this squad - especially if we keep PCH and Pierre...

  • Best bit of news today

What really excites me about this is the indication that we aren't just settling for a default "lump it to Bayo" strategy. I'm also seeing subtle through balls from Sam for Kashket and Paris/Weston/Southwell (in case we lose Paris) . And also, we're planning for next year already.

Actually Bayo is good with ball played through to feet as well, Sam S's ability, and now on a really good surface, should mean we see more of this as well.

  • FMOB, what a signing! Never in a million years did I think GA would be able to pull that one off. I'm getting all shivery just at the thought of seeing the link up play between him and the front 3.

  • Agree, despite everyone mentioning the availability, it seemed like even with a big payoff it was too romantic idea that he'd come back with "unfinished business"

But it seems to be exactly what has happened!

  • I wonder if the chance to play Spurs had any impact on his decision to sign.

  • oh my Lord, I just creamed in my pants.

  • Just wow. It makes me happy knowing my £150 went towards him signing for us, like others on here i never thought we could get him on loan let alone have him sign an 18 month contract.

  • Me too @robin . I didn't sign up to the 500 Club straight off as I didn't particularly see it would achieve anything significant, but went for it in a moment of madness and can't believe the effect it - along with cup money - it's had. Feels like I bought myself one of the best Christmas presents ever. Injuries allowing, there's no reason we can't start thinking - okay, dreaming - of automatic promotion. Superb work from Gaz and everyone involved.

  • MindlessDrugHoover

I paid mine early as i was lucky enough to be given £600 i wasn't expecting and wondered what to do with it.

  • In Gaz we trust.

  • Quality signing. Interesting to see how he fits in and fingers crossed he stays fit.

  • I suggest he will start tomorrow instead of Wood.

  • Dead ball specialist.......I'd say a lot better that jj

  • Harsh on Wood, but maybe he's got one last chance to keep the shirt tomorrow.
Saunders surely can't be fit enough to go straight into the team tomorrow. Surely he'll be sub, then we'll look at him next week.

There's no point rushing him as he can't have played too much In the last 6months.

  • Hasn't started since October. No chance he's starting tomorrow.

  • Well that's cheered me up after that f*ckwit across the pond taking over.

  • This is just a guess but I'm thinking Saunders will start tomorrow then Wood back in for the midweek Checkatrade and a refreshed Saunders in for the Tottenham match.

  • If he starts tomorrow he'll surely only last 60.

I love that someone has already snapped up home kit sponsorship!

  • I would guess he comes on (if needed) for last 20 tomorrow then starts on Tuesday. Who knows but I think harsh on Wood if he isn't in starting line up tomorrow.

  • Does he take squad number 26?

  • Sammy Wood plays better when he has competition for the shirt I guess Saunders to start with Woody coming on at 70

  • I love you Sam

    Thanks

  • Could this deal have been sweetened with Pierre going the other way?

  • Why would we need to sweeten the deal? They wanted to ship him out!
It's pretty certain they cut him a deal to make up for the shortfall of wages.

  • If he plays like he did on his last spell here, this is going to be a fantastic signing.
    Welcome back Sam!

  • Bloody amazing more Saunderese stuff in the middle of the park...
