Ossie Smith was a fantastic little player, very much in the Claude Makelele style of breaking up the game and protecting his defence. Another player of similar ilk was Telford's Anton Joseph.
I would love to have had the Paul Davies & Kim Casey partnership when they were in their pomp. Arguably the finest front duo to have graced the non league game.
And Stafford Rangers battering ram and Yosser Hughes look alike Chris Camden was a nightmare to defend against.
@ChasHarps Re: Davies & Casey. Agreed!
Didn't Kidderminster stick something like thirteen goals past us in the two league games one season in the mid 1980's? Was is 8-2 and 5-2?
No idea how many of those Messers Casey and Davies got. Probably several.
@Fit2drop - can someone explain what was wrong with Bullock at AP? I loved him!
I remember him being nippy, tricky and winning plenty of penalties, but whenever I mention him people tell me otherwise.
Anyone remember Edgar Awaratefe for Sutton. Dreads flying everywhere he was a real force. Also that guy with the big Afro at Whitton Albion - Karl Thomas. He always looked lively in the early 90's.
Defoe ripped us apart in a home game against Bournemouth as someone has already mentioned - and I will never forget Henrik Larsson in Cousins' testimonial - it really was like watching a cut scene from a FIFA 17 advert.
Oh Yes Francis Edgar Awaritefe, I remember we agreed a fee to sign him from Sutton under Peter Suddaby, but as we were getting pummled every week, Awaritefe came out with a lame excuse that the travelling was too far. He left for Australia not long after that.
Alongside a pacy poweful striker called Peter Shearer who was unplayable that day. He moved to Bournemouth and Birmingham but injuries prevented him from realising his potential.
Agree with Hemmings, was delighted when we signed him. Also David Perkins and Chris Hargreaves, tireless midfielders who seemed to be everywhere on the pitch, would have loved them at Wycombe
Nicky Francis scored all five goals for Enfield in our 5-1 home defeat in 87-88. Although we were rubbish at the time, that was an impressive performance by him. It always sticks in my memory because I was in the boardroom that day, I had won a draw to be guest for the day, and after the match Brian Lee gave the Man of the Match bottle of Champagne to Francis, he said he couldn't possibly give it to a home player in view of his outstanding performance. I have never heard of another opposition player getting our MOTM award.

@ChasHarps He was ruined by Instron!
One of my most admired for a while was Ossie Smith for Runcorn and Altrincham. He was the sort of tough tackling leader we needed in the mid 80's.

David Leworthy and Paul Cavell always scored a bagful of goals in the last few years of our Conference era.
Glyn Creaser said Chris Camden was his toughest opponent
Got to agree about Kemar Roofe - tore us apart in that game at ours.

What went wrong?

Remember an aging Andy Gray outclassing us for Cheltenham one Christmas and chatting to the crowd throughout

Thought Tony Hemmings was brilliant against us for Northwich. Was delighted when we signed him
Hemmings, Steve Thompson and Noel Ashford are the three players that I couldn't believe we'd managed to sign. They were always immense against us.
Tony Ellis deserves a mention
Agree with Hemmings, was delighted when we signed him. Also David Perkins and Chris Hargreaves, tireless midfielders who seemed to be everywhere on the pitch, would have loved them at Wycombe
Keith Allens Wig. I read Chris Hargreaves biography. It was a decent read.

Dave Collyer - Woking keeper in the 70s.
