You make some good points and have observed well. I'd say the massive, undeniable difference between this season just gone and the previous one is the quality of loanees we were able to bring in, with the exception of Jason McCarthy.
In terms of strikers, I'm not sure a small pacy striker is what we need, especially considering our direct style of play. A target man capable of winning some headers would be nice. We used to have a striker called Andy Rammell. Someone like him would be ideal, especially if we were able to get Paris Cowan Hall to play alongside him. Would transform the side actually
Pace and power are required. Outside of our back four we have lacked that in abundance this season just gone. Key close season for Ainsworth. Could be a good one given some support by the budget setters or his last.
@Chris Thompson, Hayes, Wood are three that come to mind as being a shade immobile.
@eric_plant I definitely agree on the loanees, Mawson and Saunders were terrific the previous season and Yennaris wasn't too far behind. McCarthy was very good last season and will i'm sure have a good career.

Thompson/Wood/Hayes carrying timber?
Reminds me of the time one of Ginola's manager's accused him of the exact same thing "too much timber", and he scored a marvellous goal, and showed off an Adonis physique. Made the manager look a right numpty.
If there's one thing Ainsworth would demand in his squad it's the hard work, and being in prime physical condition!

When Wood is fully fit he runs himself into the ground every game, very harsh to describe him as immobile
Don't think that's ever been Hayes' game, and with the right players around him is capable of offering plenty of footballing nous
Thompson seemed to age even during last season. I'm not sure how much he's got left in the tank
I reckon Thompson is one of the quicker members of the squad. Hayes isn't quick but I definitely don't think he's carrying extra weight.
And @eric_plant is right about Wood.

Wood actually does look like he is carrying excess timber. Could be the reason he was so poor compared with hisvgood form last season.
Saw Wood in the gym last night, no weight issues what so ever and he's injured.
He was definitely carrying a bit at the start of the season.
