I am fairly certain that was the case. Most unusual for him to be substituted. I've said it elsewhere but it bears repetition. We were without three regular midfielders and that put extra pressure on a defence which probably included at least one player who was very much under the weather. Luke wanted to play but GA clearly thought he needed longer to recover from his knock.
I remember thinking during the game he looked surprisingly sluggish. That would explain a lot. I wonder if Stewart was another one struggling, as he really wasn't at the races on Saturday. Missed a few headers and lost his man several times. Thought he just wasn't concentrating, which seemed odd given his recent solid form.
He did also confirm that Stewart and McCarthy were sent home from training on Thursday. It appears that Ainsworth did not know until Saturday morning who would be well enough to play
It really does. We were awful, but when I get ill I think I'm going to die - I definitely couldn't battle a bunch of Wimbledon players trying to wrestle me to the ground at every opportunity for 90 minutes. Bring on York!
You do wonder why Ainsworth didn't start with Jombati, if 3 of the back 4 were a bit ill in the midweek.
But apart from that, let's hope it was a one off awful display mostly down to the condition of the team, and we can forget it, and quickly hunt down the 3wins and couple of draws that'll hopefully seal 7th

Here I go again! Quite apart from the deflating effect of the goal that probably wouldn't have been if your namesake hadn't been hobbling towards the exit 40 yards away, having three regular midfielders unavailable must have put additional pressure on our ailing back four.
I just hope our medical staff are as brilliant with illness as they are with injuries!
I can only imagine the scenes at our training ground some days, with only half the squad able to train.
I'm surprised sometimes they don't put a shout out to some fans to turn up to help the sessions go along. Nothing contact based obviously, but maybe pay a fee to do some running/drills etc. And the players benefit, as there's not just a few of them doing it!
@Malone; regarding half the squad, if those who played sufficient game time, I expect there isn't many to play 4 on 4 most days including the loanees, especially with illness and injuries.
@malone thats probably the most ridiculous post ever put on this forum, invite fans in to do running with the players ???? this is a professional football club not a laughing stock.
Lol Richie. Compared to some of your nonsense "insider knowledge" (still waiting for that play off final keeper),and your scandalous attempt to affect our super fan's rep by posting twattish stuff claiming to be her (not sure why youre allowed to still post), id say my suggestion was genius!
I'm sure a club tried to get fans to pay to take part in matches once, so training wouldn't be a problem on occasion. Id have thought with your insider knowledge that when we have 6or 7 players fit only, it limits what they can do anyway
@malone; for what's it's worth, I think your suggestion was a cracking idea to bring cash into the coffers, plus more video training/exercise clips and what the lads are upto once a week. Shooting techniques for example.
Show the lads what football in the community is all about and could create a few more loyal fans.
Every little helps. I'm sure other clubs have done similar in the past, invites to training, even going on the team coach etc!
You don't want anything too invasive, and perhaps getting involved in sessions is getting too close, but a watching brief would definitely be appreciated by some.

Hayes confirmed that was the case in Vere Suite Q&A

These comments really do put things in perspective.
