Re: Attendance Prediction - Huddersfield Town (h) - Tues 7th Jan '25 - Match 25 in 24/25
Top Twenty for the Total Crowd: [4095]
This became delayed - I can't really pretend it was the weather, but it didn't help!
Many belated congratulations to @Commoner who was closest and didn't miss a single digit score by far. Please belatedly take the title of Forecaster of the Week, this particular accolade will last longer than many of the recent ones.
Congratulations to @ryan_w_kirkby2, who was nearly as close and to @our_frank who were both within one hundred.
Those three may well register well on the Leaderboard when that is finalised. The next three in this table are all close to the top of the Leaderboard and may well have not improved much if at all on their current tenth best scores.
However worth noting that @Twizz in 7th on here has continued a recent upturn in form and whilst the ground is frozen may well have scampered across some more of it.
Welcome to @tewkesburychairboy predicting for the first time this season - feel free to give it another go!
Top Twenty for the Away Crowd: [Given as 552]
Many congratulations to @DevC, who topped this table, missing by just seven.
Congratulations to @MindlessDrugHoover; @perfidious_albion; @MFH_Blue; @Forest_Blue; @Twizz: @93Chairboy ; @Manboobs ande@a40 all of whom were within 23 - [5%].
Nine people within 5% was pretty good IMHO, as I thought circumstances made this particular figure not easy to predict.
Top Twenty for the Home Crowd; [Calculated 4206]
Many congratulations again to @Commoner, who tops this table as well as the one for total attendance.
Congratulations to @ryan_w_kirkby2 and @NewburyWanderer who were within one hundred.
For those who have read this far - I do think there is a really good case for the EFL to change the rules on postponements in League One (Two) for international breaks. The current ones are easy to game. My own suggestion is that clubs should opt in or opt out before the fixtures lists are published and the clubs which opt out play each other on the Saturdays of International breaks.
I reckon this game would have been a 5000 - 6000 home crowd on a Saturday.
Re: Matt Bloomfield to Luton?
Though that is just on Skybet, Bet Victor’s odds are significantly closer. I would suggest no one has a clue at this stage and the money being placed is minimal but who knows
Re: The definitive ex-player news thread
He is but surely it doesn't matter what level of football you're at when taking a pen?
Re: Rumour Mill
If his contract does run until the end of next season I'm not sure it is sensible to extend it now. What I would hope is that they have increased his current salary together with a very large bonus for achieving promotion.
How many managers last for more than two year (Gazza was a one off)? If Blooms doesn't like a data driven recruitment of players he isn't going to stay long term anyway.
The owners have made a clear decision on how our club is to be run and we have to accept it, particularly whilst it seems to be successful. All staff have to be on the same page to achieve the best outcome.
Re: Matt Bloomfield to Luton?
I can see Wycombe potentially becoming a success like Brentford once we settle into our new stadium.
Re: Rumour Mill
This.
When Matt leaves it will be for job security elsewhere because he doesn't have it here. Not because his relationship with the new hierarchy has broken down but because they want to go in a different direction. Yes, that sounds ridiculous when we're riding high in League One but if we weren't he wouldn't still be here. At least if he takes another, more lucrative, job he will have left on his own terms.
Re: FA Cup 4th Round Draw
Would there really be infinite replays? I've no doubt Tamworth would have been turned over at the new Spurs ground but they would have made a few thousand quid and the fans would have great memories. Go to extra time and pens in the second game by all means...
PL clubs could send your second string to play Steven Gerrard's Saudi Selection in the summer instead.
Re: Rumour Mill
To be fair, we don’t hear a great deal from Rice. He’s certainly not a Rob Couhig, who clearly liked the sound of his own voice. Couhig gave Bloomfield any extension to his contract. I don’t know when that was to. Perhaps it was to the end of season 2026 which is nearly 18 months to go, so the hierarchy don’t feel it’s necessary to do anything yet. However , despite backing Bloomfield in recruiting new players, it would be reassuring to hear some positive noises about him from Rice.
Re: Matt Bloomfield to Luton?
FWIW Schumacher was as short as 1/10 the day before Plymouth went and appointed someone else.
Re: Rumour Mill
This post hits the nail hard on the head.
We can analyse what Matt has said about control over transfer policy however we like, infer everything or nothing from now deleted tweets from family and choose to discard insight from sources at Beechdean Ice Cream. What is obvious however is that neither Matt nor his staff who were here under the Couhigs have been offered new longer more lucrative contracts, despite plenty of potential suitors being interested. Kone on the other hand has had an extension offered and signed. If they thought highly of Matt and wanted to keep him they’d have given him golden handcuffs.
Unfortunately it is clear that this is a marriage of convenience with neither party being in love. Despite the new owners having everything that they should ever want with a long serving club legend in charge who is over performing, an amazing man manager and tactician, they would prefer to have their own manager in place.
It’s a sad place to be despite being in the most healthy position we’ve ever been on the pitch, but that’s where our club is.
