The players gone weren't getting game time under Bloomfield. You would presume that prior to him leaving he had discussions about the players or positions he wanted to strengthen. I think that's just been worked on in his absence.

how awkward will it be Hanlan being greeted by the player who could easily have ended his career, but certainly put a dent in it. Must be very forgiving.

Ainsworth was young and appointed with little experience.

Bloomfield was young and appointed with limited experience

If Dodds is appointed he fits the trend.

People mention Schumacher but he was appointed by Plymouth when he was a coach, was young with limited experience. But he struggled at Stoke and fans have various rumours on reasons he was sacked.

I think an up and coming experienced coach is probably the best way rather than someone off the managerial merry go round.

No experience ?? No none whatsoever. Probably coaches down the rye at the weekend.

Thoughts on Mike Dodds:

1. fantastic bloke, well liked at Sunderland, think he fits well into culture.
2. Little bit of a yes man so presumably fits well into the way Rice wants to run things.
3. great coach but little bit of a reluctant manager so not sure about that.
4. i actually think he did a great job at Sunderland last season, settling a sinking ship. He did nothing spectacular but look how well they’ve done this season on limited changes so I think he has to take a bit of credit for that.
