Re: Match Day Thread: Barnsley
Up for a while after one of the regular wee breaks so took the opportunity to listen to Sam Grace.
I don’t suppose the owners are going to offer him the Head Coach job, not least I suppose, as has been mentioned elsewhere, because he’s been doing such a superb job on the youth development side and also one or two reservations have been expressed about the way things turned out for Neil Smillie all those years ago but listening to that interview it just felt to me like he could be a serious contender.
Would like to see a slightly more animated demeanour during games perhaps but that is the calm collected character he clearly is and not all coaches are like whirling dervishes! The Barnsley manager for example remained seated and almost motionless throughout.
I think most of us would feel a warm glow of excitement in the admittedly unlikely event that Dan Rice and his colleagues decided that it made sense to put their trust in the continuity and dedication of a very likeable and competent homespun coach.
Back to bed, perchance to dream.
Re: New Manager Rumour Mill
So is Sam Grace not an option? He’s had a brilliant run over the last few games and from his post match interview he came across very well.
Personally, would love him to be given a crack at it but I would worry if he was given the role it could damage his reputation if it all went awry over the next couple months and we threw away this lead for automatic promotion.
What a great memory to have by being the gaffer over the last three games with a team so together. Priceless.
Re: Match Day Thread: Barnsley
No chance to read through every other post here, but after the week we've had (especially on here!) that was the perfect tonic. A reminder as to why we all absolutely love this club, come rain or shine. Dan Rice - do not sell Kone for any price whatsoever. Days like these don't come around too often. What a club.
Re: Match Day Thread: Barnsley
Must say we’ve seen some great goalkeeping performances against us in the last 2 games
Re: Man of the Match - Barnsley (H)
Kone. Easy.
That said, Gareth McCleary, I bloody love you.
Re: Match Day Thread: Barnsley
100% agree and personally I’d be sorely tempted to keep him in the role till the end of the season (unless he really doesn’t want that). Feels like much less of a risk than bringing in a new manager at this stage.
Re: Match Day Thread: Barnsley
Still working. Adrenaline flowing through my body after that. What a win and what a fucking header. Fabulous! @frequentstander thank you for the link to the Sam Grace interview.
We’ve had God (Noel Ashford), Jesus (Dave Carroll) and now the King (Richard Kone).
He’s in good company here too…
Re: Match Day Thread: Barnsley
Not really his fault as it pinged off Leahy I think, but why is Bradley trying to head the ball as it's almost on the floor?
Pitch isn't really helping.
We did so well earlier this season at getting midfield runners in behind, and we've struggled to do that recently.
Re: Match Day Thread: Barnsley
Superb rallying call from Grimmer in his interview there too. That got me pumped up!
Re: Match Day Thread: Barnsley
Gawd, almost an Ainsworth style result. Barnsley goal was unfortunate, but it gave them something to hang on to. Their goalie has to be their man of the match.
We stuck at it, and I thought Udoh and Kone had them rattled throughout. Some very bizarre reffing decisions, but at least he had no choice with the Fred pen and the sending off, which looked bad even from the main stand with my dodgy eyesight.
We deserved the win, though we failed to turn the screw on the ten men.
Agent Revel did us a favour as well.
Well done Sam Grace and team.
The only problem is a lot of teams seem to be finding form. Cambridge won't be an easy game.
Onwards and upwards.
