Re: Match Day Thread: Bristol Rovers
Spent the afternoon in hospital waiting for results which would either mean I was ok or about to enter a world of shit. Results said I was ok. Went home to see Wycombe do a Wycombe and win in injury time. Celebrated like we'd won the world club championship. Choose life.
Re: Match day thread: Sheffield Wednesday
Even by your standards that’s one of the strangest posts I have ever seen on here. Max has been one of the finds of the seasons.
Re: Suggested Open Letter to our Club
Use the same text that Blackpool fans wrote when they f'd us for the Phillips money.
I've got no time for this. Reading fans and their insatiable thirst for a return to the Premier League with a sense of 'big club' entitlement is as much to blame as the guy who sold them magic beans.
The same fans on their time lines today who are pleading for clemency for not paying their bills will have demands for signing big name players. Sometimes the piper has to be paid.
They are fucked. They have been fucked for years. But they have carried on paying top dollar for players as part of a jam tomorrow business strategy they all bought into. As for the details of this deal I will criticise it when I know what it is. If it turns out to be a mutually beneficial one that sees them survive and retain use of the stadium I assume Pete's timeline will be full of wholesome apologies etc. Until then the villans of this piece are the same ones that they were yesterday along with their enablers.
Bill Turnbull
Two years to the day that Bill passed away. Bill had a massive impact in making people aware of the symptoms of Prostate cancer. There are quite a few thousand people in the UK who owe their lives to Bill and there are a few of us on the Gasroom.
Thank you Bill.
Re: Swansea away
Would just like to add out congratulations for your teams performance last night. Too many times it’s about the ‘supposed’ better team playing poorly. You thoroughly deserved the win. Wishing you all the best for the rest of the season 🙏
Re: Reading offer Bearwood training ground to Wycombe
If Rob had said that he’d taken Wycombe as far as he could and waved us goodbye I don’t think anyone would have been too bothered about him popping up somewhere else, but he didn’t.
He said the travelling was too much, he was getting too old, would always watch us on Wanderers TV etc, which was plainly a crock of sh&t.
And in hindsight, wrestling 15% of the club away in return for nothing and trying to anchor us with Bearwood to make his next move easier sits very badly with me.
Re: Match day thread: Birmingham
Birmingham City spent more this summer than we've spent in the entire, 140 odd year history of our club. Probably over a hundred times more. I thought we did well.
Re: Rumour Mill
When I gave Martin my copy of his autobiography to sign, I said "I've been going to football matches for 60 years, and the five years you were here was the most fun I've had". "Is that right?", he said.
I can't emphasise just how exciting those times were. We were on a mission to the promised land of the football league, and onwards from there. As others have said, we had some really talented players who were a pleasure to watch, and who really connected with the fans. The joy of going on so many away trips, to places I had barely heard of, is something I really miss. The Wembley visits were a bonus, when supporters and their families and friends all joined together for a bit of a party, a very different atmosphere to recent visits. We've had success since but nothing compares to those magical years when Martin was here.
Re: Rumour Mill
We'd been a non-league side for over 100 years, and the previous season we'd missed out on the title in the most heartbreaking fashion imaginable to the worst set of players and fans imaginable.
We bounced back and won the double playing the most scintillating football possible culminating of course in a 4-1 victory at Wembley on front of 30,000 Wycombe supporters. We had one of the best managers in the country and an unbelievably good side. The possibilities seemed endless.
You can't just remove all context and say last season was better. It sounds absurd
Wrexham fan in peace
Hi All,
As mentioned Wrexham fan in peace. Supported the club over 20 years so don't worry I am not going to harp on about our last 4 years. Try and ignore all the "idiots" from our fans, majority are just normal fans.
Just wanted to say fair play to yous all. 2-0 down and gave it a real go. Criminal you didn't score in the first half but was a great opening game. You've got some lively players that I can certainly see hurting many teams like you did against us. Will keep an eye out for you weekly as it will be interesting to see how you get on throughout the season.
All the best for the season and look forward to visiting
