Re: 1887 updates
Nice. Have to say the atmosphere has been much improved in the last couple of games.
Re: Wycombe monitoring Uche
It amazes me that fans wouldn't want Uche back. I'd have him back in a heartbeat
Re: David Wheeler on Gambling in Football in the Guardian
I've struggled with Gambling since I was young. Always tried to find different ways to make my money last, next time will be different, change bookies, just bet on what I know, don't chase etc but if you have a problem with gambling all these adverts when the fun stops stop, set am amount you're happy to lose its a load of shite tbh, you'll only stop when you have no money left and no means of getting anymore.
Thankfully I got to a point where I had to do something before it was to late and I'd lose everything or worse. I went to Gamblers Anonymous and its the best thing I've ever done. Haven't had to place a bet for years as I know once I place one I'll be back at the jumping off place I was at before going to GA.
As for the adverts for me I've come to live with it and accept it, does it get annoying at times, yeah definitely and listening to talksport can be painful at times.
Good luck to the people who can have a little bet and go the races and have fun. They can, I can't and today I can live with that.
Sorry for the longwinded post and may of gone off topic but if anyone is struggling help is available.
Thanks.
Re: Match day thread: Exeter
Yes i am, i'm in both the 1887 and the focus group. The club advertised for a drummer/s to come forward, i believe the response wasn't great. Paul volunteered. But and we as a group hold our hands up, made a mistake in standing nearer the Frank Adams. The next home game we will be more central. One of reasons is that the core of the singers are in the middle and don't want to move, Me included, although i did move to the right for this game. Also some of the people who have stood on the right weren't happy about the invasion of new faces for them to put up with. Flag wise we have ordered more wavers as well as smaller flags for the kids in the family stand. We are not in it for our own celebrity as (some not on here) have suggested. Any suggestions or ideas would be more than welcomed and appreciated.
Re: Drum is back!
It's probably the most fair way they could do it. Just because someone is vulnerable doesn't mean they can just do whatever they like, everyone else be damned. It's a tricky one to balance, and it definitely seems like the club have taken their time, thought about it, and put together a policy that is notably not full of snide attacks and bullying, but instead establishes a set of fair criteria.
Re: Drum is back!
Nope. The article is written professionally, without prejudice or the singling out of any individual.
If someone wants to use the drum who isn't enthusiastic, doesn't act responsibly, hasn't got a sense of rhythm, doesn't drum in a manner which encourages fellow fans, and is using it in an antisocial manner, they shouldn't be given the drum, whoever they are, or whatever their situation.
Re: Rumour Mill
In all the time I've been supporting Wycombe (about 35 years) I honestly can't think of a better team to have supported in that time
The O'Neill years, getting into the league, 3 Wembley trips, the last day escape at Lincoln, that FA Cup run, that league cup run, "Torquay", more Wembley trips, White Hart Lane and plenty of promotions and relegations along the way, including, ridiculously, one to the championship
That's not even getting into the mates you've made along the way, and the array of players that have been through the door. And it's all happened at my local club as well.
I'm biased obviously but it's genuinely what I feel. Let people call us tin pot if they want, I don't know why it would bother anyone. None of us would swap our team for their team, whoever it may be
Re: Covid Refund Party
Apart from going there a couple of times in Spring 2021 for Covid jabs, today was my first visit to Adams Park since I had to call it a day for health reasons in September 2021.
I deliberately set out to recreate a matchday scenario, picking up my nonagenarian passenger at 1.15 pm at Wycombe train station. Arrived 1.30, parked on the level and made straight for the Caledonian Suite, already packed and noisily buzzing with conversation.
Queued at the mini bar, chatting to Trevor Stroud and Val Bate (the late Phil Bate’s wife) and spent a happy 40 minutes or so leaning on the bar counter and chatting to sundry other folk not seen in some cases for a good few years. Enjoyed the free pint (Diet Coke for my guest) and the free veggie wrap brought round on a tray by someone (I assume) from the new catering company.
Then it was off to the away stand, chatting en route with another dozen or so past acquaintances, for the the various player awards, compèred by Matt Cecil, culminating in the presentation to Max Stryjek - the players’ player of the season - of the latest goalkeeper’s top.
I understand that around 600 tickets were issued and it certainly seemed like the attendance was pretty close to that figure. There were few children and the older generation was well represented but, over all, there was good representation of all the generations.
I thoroughly enjoyed this rare opportunity to revisit the old haunts.
