If someone had told us a few years ago that Wycombe would be top of League One in January and spend a few million in the window on players who don't even make the squad never mind add to the promotion push - who would have believed it?
The notion that they're here for next season seems bit odd. If you have to get the spending out the way this season, why not buy players who are ready to contribute this season too. The idea that these guys are good enough for the Championship but can't help in League One is absurd.
Thank you. Exactly the point. Why sign (and I am sorry to pick on the Danes) two players that are not ready to contribute when for the extraordinary amount of money we have spent there are players out there that are ready to hit the ground running?
No one has suggested he should. But I guess the theory is that when you sign a player it is with the purpose of improving upon what you have. I’m guessing that fitness is not the issue with the majority of the new signings.
To be honest, I'd be perfectly happy with the group who got us to the top of the table being fit and playing, with the exception of Simons turning out to be an able deputy for Morley.
The one real positive from yesterday was that Simons seemed to slot in perfectly immediately. Composed and looked to make the forward pass. If fit, I think he'll start almost every game for the rest of the season.
That very first pass by Simons reminded me of the one Mehmeti made straight after coming on for his debut. Very early impression on a very small sample size is that he's a more mobile Morley.
Just call me bewildered High Wycombe. I’m much too old to adjust to/comprehend what is going on. Yesterday’s return in the second half to total hoofball, allegedly in part because our new goalkeeper isn’t comfortable playing the ball out on the deck, was so sad.
The delightful slick passing football that took us to the top seems now like a distant memory. The high press involving half a dozen or more players causing what I think is now referred to as chaos in the final third (exemplified in extremis away to a shellshocked Stockport) seems to have evaporated like a spring mist.
Sad times but much too early, I suppose, to write off our promotion prospects completely.
Where is anyone saying money is no object? Signing a CB for 500k or whatever it was, is in today's reality not a ridiculous figure even if he needs time to adapt to a new country.
Morley was obviously being quoted for a sum we didn't want to pay.
May have fitness is probably the main issue with most if them. Add the impact of moving countries for the Danes and having to adapt, its probably not easy.
Early days, but we were playing better football with a seemingly poorer quality keeper and spending money on exciting looking players not to actually play them except (in a couple of cases) in cameos is a bit perplexing. I might - as Crawley have done for example - have bought an oven ready striker experienced at this level to back up Udoh and Kone. But I am still positive we can do something special.
Bolton paid a reported 1.2m on a player from Peterborough. To sell a wanted player to a title challenging team, with a wealthy owner, they aren't just rolling over. Especially as the player showed he was playing well. My random guess with no knowledge but trying to think it out, was somewhere near 2million.
This depends on whether the expectation is he will be 4th choice going forward. But, its not unreasonable to think he needs time to adapt and get used to the league and a new country.
Patience lads. It takes time to train players up in our systems plus they have to earn the right to play instead of players who got us to 2nd. And on top of that we have a new manager who would be crazy to rock the boat when he barely knows our players. I'm expecting most of the new players to start having an impact at around the time of the Wrexham game. Bradley, Norris and Simons aside - they are all from the league above and will be far easier to integrate.
I think we will see many of the players brought in in January feature at some point in the remaining 16 games of the season as Dodds rotates his squad to maintain fitness/match sharpness and maximise our chances of the autos.
I, like others, do not buy into the school of thought that we bought Champ standard players for next season who are somehow not ready for L1. If they are that good they should be rolling over L1 opposition once they are match fit.
Having said that I suspect Finn was one who probably was a case of "needs more development but is available now". Whereas Lowry & Berry just need minutes under their belts to be ready to contribute due to their lack of game time this season.
Anyway, lets see what surprise Dodds springs (or doesn't) on Tuesday.

They will be able to. But not immediately.
Fingers crossed in some month in the future we look back and say, wow we actually questioned these guys at one point.
The whole thing is totally perplexing, especially as both Danes have been on the pitch in League games recently. To be omitted from the squad is nuts.
Imagine the volcanic eruption on here if Doddsy had played lots of the newbies in place of the established team and we had lost!

Apologies for not having responded sooner.
My source was https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/
Here’s a screenshot showing his minutes played.
I think it is clear to most people that these five players are not match fit and that is why they were not included in the matchday squad yesterday.
How @TheAndyGrahamFanClub has come to the opposite conclusion is bemusing.

We peaked against Stockport. Other teams worked out a way to counter, and December we struggled and since then goals have been difficult.
We scored 10 league goals in November.
We scored 11 league goals in December.
The last line is absolutely impossible to argue.
The debate is whether we didn't want to pay a "reasonable" fee of say 400-500k and then went thrashing bigger sums on others.
I'd be surprised if it wasn't a big fee though.
Some peak! But we scored plenty of goals at a more normal rate for some time after that, I think.
It is a ridiculous figure for a ‘fourth choice’ league one centre back
Or maybe the data didn't fit, I doubt we will ever know.

We also played 50% more games. 2.5gpg to 1.8gpg. Skewed by 7 in 2 games.
Though we won 100% of league games in November and only 33% of games in December. I think the peak was November.

Wasn't it reported that 100k was offered just for a loan spell, till end of season. I'm sure the data was fine on him.
Goals weren’t difficult though were they? We scored more.
We scored less per game though. Therefore we found scoring more difficult. A trend that continued on into January.
In fact we averaged 2pg or more up per month until November, peaked in November and saw goals per game decrease tgereafter

I think we should have just had Aaron change his last name to Morlegaard. We'd have paid up then.
(disclaimer - this is a joke).
It's that 100k that makes logical sense for the fee to be properly high.
As you wouldn't bother wasting 100k if it was "only" 300-500k would you?
