Ainsworth is quoted in the above article as saying:
’"I know everyone will talk about free agents," he continued. "I'm sure there'll be questions about Jason McCarthy and David Wheeler and people like that who've cancelled their contracts at Wycombe.
"I'll have to say now before those questions come, that I spoke to both of them, tried to get both here, and again hit a bit of a brick wall.
"I think they're both pursuing different things now in their lives, and that's fine. That's their choice.”’
McCarthy going another direction at 29 seemed a real surprise, but while Wheeler would certainly be fit enough, at 34 maybe less of a surprise if he goes in a range of other directions?
Gaz must be gutted as both could have really helped their cause out.
I’ve never met David Wheeler but our granddaughter’s partner knows him quite well through a shared interest and involvement in sustainability so I’m very much aware of what a great guy he is.
As probably one of the most emotional guys on the Gasroom, I’m slightly hesitant about watching David’s farewell video but, having gone through so much sadness a few weeks ago over Matt’s departure, at least this one is substantially less controversial.
i think most of us are gradually coming to terms with the enormous changes that are taking place and I must say that I found @bluntphil’s interview with Mike Dodds very reassuring.
Sounds like both Wheels and Jason decided that commuting to Shrewsbury for 6/12/18 months wasn't really worth their time, particularly since that have offers closer to home.
On Wanderers TV and on the Club's Twitter feed. Wheels was one of my favourite players and it's very sad to see him leave. I never met him, although I felt a connection as he's a fellow Brunel University graduate. He was never your average footballer and I loved the fact that he espoused green/left politics. He made his team mates listen to the arguments for adopting proportional representation and the need for ending the reliance on fossil fuels. As somebody else said: "One the good guys". Good luck, David.
Apologies @Twizz. It's not on Wanderers TV yet, but I fully expect it to appear on there later. Most of the footage that appears on Twitter appears on WTV at some point. The Wheels farewell is too good not to - short speech from Sam Grace, followed by a big round of applause from his team mates in the gym, and finally a few words from the man himself. You'll enjoy it when you see it.

Interesting that Gareth Ainsworth suggests in that interview that David Wheeler isn't looking to sign for another club.
Obviously, I have no idea of their plans, but quite surprised neither were interested in a short term deal to get GA over the line.
I bet they were flattered in the confidence shown by the old gaffer in any case.
Got quite emotional watching the video of his goodbye to the team at the training ground
Interesting. Does sound like Wheels is potentially looking to explore non-playing options if GA has referenced him in the same context as McCarthy.

A real blow for Gaz tho.
Where is the video of his goodbye

I know I'm a dimwit @Wellesbourne75 but where is it on WanderesTV? I've looked and can't find it.
Don't subscribe to twitter/X.

Impossible to watch without shedding a tear
I suppose we better go and get promoted 💪
Oh, dear. I’m still in two minds but I’ve never been one of the “big boys that don’t cry” so here goes.
Moving stuff. What a group. What a club.
Long final interview...

Wowsa, what an interview. Setting a high benchmark for those that are to follow.
So pleasing to hear David saying that he is content with his situation, which is comforting to us as supporters.
