You are the Boss! 2025 WWFC Edition.

With all the transfer dealings done who would you play (assuming everyone is fit) for the league run in?

This is my first team (plus replacements) and I can’t remember a time when we had two complete sides plus players that wouldn’t make my 22 man match day squad. The times are changing that’s for sure!

Are we in a strange ‘Chelsea style situation’ with too many players now though?

  • Your faith in Westergaard is interesting. He looked a bit lightweight and out of bit to me. Sub him with Lubala (Berry) and I think we can live with that.

  • Think I might be tempted to play 11 players.

  • Why would we play a diamond midfield?

  • By accounts in the BFP, Xavi is a holding midfielder. Have always liked that in a side. The three can sit centrally and have the fullbacks push on a little more. Just my idea.

    4-3-2 / 4-4-1 seems something of a disadvantage.

Ignoring the missing 11th player, if I’m interpreting this correctly, are you saying our strongest match day squad excludes McCleary? I can’t claim to have seen all our new signings play but surely he’s still worth a place on the bench at least.

I think a more likely midfield 3, assuming we stick with one, is Xavi, Scowen & Humphries.

My big hope amongst the more unknown signings is that Back can offer a similar option at RB to what Harvie offers at LB.

  • Wycombe have played 4-2-3-1 (or derivations of that). That is also Mike Dodds’ preferred formation. It would seem unlikely that we will see much of a shift from this, certainly initially.

It is surely pretty hard to judge which players should start from a group several of which most of us had never heard of at the start of the year.

No doubt the team will chop and change a bit depending on form, tactics and rotation. It is far too early surely to guess lineup in say the play-off final if that is our fate.

interesting to note that I think only one of the OP suggested line up played for us last season!

  • I don’t think Back goes straight into a team aiming at promotion to L1.

  • Low, Scowen, and Kone all played for us last season?

  • Jack Grimmer is so important to the team, he will always be my first choice at RB. His runs down the wing are inspirational, driving the team on. We really miss him when he is not playing. I would be surprised if Back is first choice.

  • Agree with the above, I can’t see Back coming straight in.

  • Funny how we all see the game differently isn’t it. I can’t fault Cpt. Jacks passion and commitment but see his decision making and skill set as poor (basic passing and ball control). Under the new data driven regime and with the quality recently brought into the building my guess is he won’t be around that long. Sorry.

  • For me no chance Leahy gets in and not GMac or Reach. I agree with @Steve_Peart about Grimmer. On Saturdays performance I would put Skura ahead of Back, until I’ve seen him play, and Pattenden.

That is quite some selection headache. It will be interesting to see how Dodds sees things with a clear sheet of paper.

    My 11

    Norris

    Grimmer, Low, Taylor, Harvie

    Simons, Scowen

    GMac, Humphreys, Fred

    Kone

Shit, I have just realised there will be some very disappointed squad players

  • Completely forgot about Reach! Wow, I’ve never known us to have this much talent available to us!

I do wonder whether they’ll trim the squad (or maybe we could buy out a club to create a B-Team) and a place for our youngsters to be blooded. Slough maybe 😂😂😂

  • I sit behind the home dugout and, second half kicking towards the Valley End, Jack's presence and influence is so clear. He wills the team on.

  • Kone

    Kone, Kone, Kone, Kone

    Kone, Kone, Kone

    Kone, Kone, Kone

  • I would say that we have a squad that befits a team chasing the automatic spot and not just a perception from outside of ‘those pesky non-leaguers’ punching above their weight as some of the more self-entitled supporters see us.

DEFINITELY a selection headache for the new coach but a good one to have.

  • Really hope Westy just needs fitness as he's by far our marquee singing money wise! Expensive for a bench option.

  • Part of me wonders whether we will be less successful if/when he isn’t though.

  • Once the squad is all bedded in, match fit etc I could see a team of

    Norris

    Grimmer Low Taylor Harvie

    Simons Scowen

    Humphreys

    Fred / GMac Kone Berry

Bench: Rav, Bradley / Anders, Leahy / Reach, Pattenden, Westergaard, Udoh, Lubala

Some serious selection headaches, but that's no bad problem to have!

  • Makes me want to do a football manager experiment - who would win the league - a team of Richard Kones, a team of Luke Leahys, a team of Josh Scowens?

  • It is certainly a game of opinions...for me Grimmer lifts the team when he is on.

  • I'd pick Grimmer atm over any other right back

I sit at the back of block C in the Main Stand also towards the Valley End. The number of times he ‘traps’ the ball and it bounces 5 yards away from him or riffles a ‘pass’ with a hit ‘n hope is an ongoing frustration (I’m the bloke shouting “oh 4 f*€k sake” every time it happens). Jasper, hardly our most technical player, kept Jack out of the team pre injury, just saying.

Lets just let our new coaching team decide shall we.

  • I don't think we should be making any radical changes to the starting XI for the moment. Hoping the likes of Kone, Harvie, Low and Grimmer are back for Saturday. Slow introductions for the rest of the signings with the possible exceptions of Simons (who should be good to go) and Norris (whom I'm sure will get a start either in the FA Cup match, or come in for the next league game).

    Wondered who that was. 😁

I have no choice except letting the coaching staff decide. They stopped listening to me a long time ago.
