Bringing in a head coach who ultimately has a reputation for being a very good coach and working with young players at least makes a lot of sense given the direction the club is moving in. I prefer this option over most of the other names we've had touted around (Evatt, Johnson etc).
It'll be interesting to see what role Vokes and Grace play in the new coaching set up. Hopefully both can stay close to the squad to keep some continuity as we enter the business end. I'd hope Dodds will be seeing the value in that too.
Definitely agree vs. Johnson or Evatt! It feels like a bit of a gamble, but there is clearly coaching acumen there, and every club is different - Sunderland were a bit underwhelming before he even took over as interim, whereas we are already firing on at least most cylinders! It's not like he needs to reinvent the wheel, and it seems he is a somewhat affable and relatable chap.

I am completely sane, and I have an enormous sense of wellbeing (one for 90s teenagers there!). Genuinely, I come on here to discuss things relating to Wycombe Wanderers, and that is the extent of it (hence why I am never on the Not Football or Culture threads). None of it is important in the real world!
I definitely agree there is a risk. It's a tough one, though - I think Schumacher was the best available with a track record in our division, so once Bolton grabbed him, for me it did feel like almost anything would seem like a risk rather than a sure thing at that point.
Did you have a favourite candidate of the names mentioned, out of interest?
fantastic bloke, well liked at Sunderland, think he fits well into culture.
Little bit of a yes man so presumably fits well into the way Rice wants to run things.
great coach but little bit of a reluctant manager so not sure about that.
i actually think he did a great job at Sunderland last season, settling a sinking ship. He did nothing spectacular but look how well they’ve done this season on limited changes so I think he has to take a bit of credit for that.

People mention Schumacher but he was appointed by Plymouth when he was a coach, was young with limited experience. But he struggled at Stoke and fans have various rumours on reasons he was sacked.
I think an up and coming experienced coach is probably the best way rather than someone off the managerial merry go round.
We have an unbelievable opportunity this season and feel someone with no experience and does not know the club/,players is a massive risk in my view not worth taking , either go for someone who has experience or stick with Grace as at least he knows the club and players

He also comes in to a very tough situation, arguably just as hard as ‘save us from going down’. We expect to win, our interim team may well be 3 wins and a draw come Monday. Lose a couple and our more volatile supporters may see his appointment as a mistake.
I’d like to see Vokes alongside him to ease the transition, seeing as Sammy V seems to be enjoying it out on the touchline.

The summary from Sunderland fans on Dodds seems to (generally) be that he is a capable coach, but was an awful interim head coach.
Currently instinctively feeling somewhere below "underwhelmed" but obviously he will deserve every chance.

Yeah, I apologize for that, mate. It feels like a pile-on (on Bloomfield) sometimes but I should do a better job of separating who is saying what.
Frankly, given how often he's been mentioned on here lately, I'd happily give the Straw Man the job til the end of the season.

Thoughts on Mike Dodds:
No experience ?? No none whatsoever. Probably coaches down the rye at the weekend.
He’ll be a head coach. Can’t be too shabby as Alex Neil wanted to take him to Stoke and he’s Regis Le Bris right-hand man at Sunderland.

Someone with experience has also probably failed. Every appointment is a risk, the names banded around have all been generally underwhelming.
