In some respects, it's really good! The teams you want to avoid playing in the last 5 are anyone remotely threatened by relegation. They seem to beat allcomers in those last few weeks. Hopefully that's a good omen.
Anyway, we will have it wrapped up at the Mad Stad with 5 games to go...
We have Wrexham and Bham to play still and they may be the really big games.
I fancy we beat Wrexham at home.
I can’t see Bham slipping up and if they win their 2 games in hand you do fancy they go on to win the league.
8 more wins and a few draws and I think we take 2nd. We have to win the next few to really pile the pressure on Wrexham who I think will then slip up and drop off….
Wrexham are heavily built on their home record, and that loss last night will have really shaken them. Not like it was one of those games either, they conceded 3!
And now they've got an almighty away game backlog, 12 homes, 16 aways to go.
It's interesting see that Huddersfield have a similar imbalance, playing 15 at home and just 12 away.
A lot of fans online still suggesting we will ‘drop off’ soon but there has to come a point when people say actually, they are the real deal. The past few weeks is the first time we have properly acknowledged that we are going for promotion. We all knew we were but now the club are mentioning it on social media, players and Sam Grace are talking about it in interviews. We all believe we can go all the way.
I was never a fan of Blooms coming out and saying Birmingham were definitely going to win the league and I’d like to think that the coaching staff have a target of winning the league rather than playing for 2nd.
Personally feel if we can keep both Low and Kone we will be in the top 2 so long as whoever the new manager is doesn’t try to change too much to radically. Games are often won and lost in the 2 penalty areas and we will just continue to have real quality in both of them if these guys stay. Added to this we do have some cracking midfielders too.
I guess that’s the formula to sustaining our push. We must keep Low, we must keep Kone and it’s so important that they get the next appointment correct.
Remember the season where we limped over the line in 3rd? I think it was a Waddock season. I don’t think my nerves could handle another finish like that.
Or was it Peter Taylor? A 2-1 loss at home to Notts County saw us squeeze over the line on GD, after we'd had that superb unbeaten run to start the season. The most anticlimactic promotion ever.
Yes you may be correct there. Lovely bloke, always had time for a chat. How nice would it be to go into the final few games already promoted, but still challenging for the title? We could breathe a sigh of relief whilst still having everything to play for.
11 teams finished on 70 points or more. Oxford were 7 points off the playoffs, despite accumulating the same number of points as they did last season when they were promoted. Fleetwood survived on 40, and Morecambe on 42
The table is really bunched up and 7 points separate 6th place from 15th place. All teams are capable of beating any other team on any day and that seems to be the case outside the top 3. Even Burton who looked dead and buried have now won 3 on the spin!
I fancy anything over 81 points may get automatic promotion..... Anytime a team outside the top 3 goes on a decent run of 4-5 games they then seem to fall over of fall back again.
FWIW, I like to do a list of predictions for Wycombe’s remaining games just after Christmas, trying to be as unbiased and realistic as possible. I had us down for W10 D5 L5 before we played Charlton (A) which would mean a final total of 86 points.
You are quite right, which would have been no surprise to my old maths teacher! I will go immediately to the naughty step wearing my dunce’s hat and try to work out what went wrong. Anyway, we’ve got a great chance of getting 80+ points.

Wish you hadn't done that @Commoner
Waiting in the ground for all the games to finish to hear if we're up or not?
*shudder*

In time for Rob Couhig to join the party.

Wrexham also have an aged squad with not a lot of depth. I honestly think they will struggle over the next 18 games, especially with 11 away games.
I agree but isn’t it amazing that we (Wycombe Wanderers), can say that. Really amazing.
Their first one is 11th Feb.
Does anyone know how many points we had after 28 games in 21/22 ?

Transfer Market have us on 55 points after 28 games in 21/22
That’s an eye-opener. We averaged 1 1/2 points a game for the rest of the season after that and only just scraped into the last playoff place.
Prior to that I was hoping not much more than a point a game would see us in the playoffs.
Time to recalibrate…
That was an exceptionally competitive season at the top though. Combined with appalling standards at the bottom of the league.

Thanks @WanderingDays
That makes me feel a little better!
Agreed

Think you’ve got your sums wrong there Alan. Before Charlton we still had 25 games to play.

Had to check the username for a second as I'd have expected you to predict us 19 wins from our last 18
